Calling all Errol fans on this blog! Every single one of you! Duty calls!

26 Sep

This is a follow up to the
tassie devil  post!
Here is the website to vote for a name – no – for THEEE NAME of this new hybrid tulip flower of Tasmania! What would be the most fitting name for this new hybrid bright red tulip of Tasmania!
Now blood is red – right! Therefore the name has to be none other then “Captain Blood”!
Vote now! Would anybody disagree with this name?
www.vdqbulbs.com…
There are many reasons – think about it! Think hard! You maybe have even other vital points for this perfect fit!
I say: 1. Captain Blood

2. Blood is red – bright red as the
tulip!
3. Errol was Captain Blood!
4. Errol was a son of Tasmania where this new bright red tulip emerges as Errol did!
5. Errol was the Tasmanian Devil – ah devil – ah hell – red as fire we are told!
6. Errol was a red hot blooded man! Any dispute?
7. The Dutch explorer Abel Tasman was the first European to land on the shores of Tasmania and named it Anthoonij van Diemenslandt = Van Diemen's Land.
In 1803, the island was colonized by the British as a penal colony and named officially Van Diemen's Land. And what does a penal colony spells to you of those hard times experienced by so many and including none other than Errol's ancestors (maternal side) – BLOOD – sweat and tears!
8. What a coincidence – the nursery's name is Van Diemen! A first class fit! Wow!
9. Errol's number is 9 – the perfect number of success!  Captain Blood made him into an over night star and so will be the new bright red tulip of the Van Diemen Nursery if named “Captain Blood”!
“Captain Blood” is a natural for this tulip, a no miss affair, a seller of the highest caliber!
Join me in this vote – it's your duty if you are a true Errol fan!
A cheer to the Errol of the past, a cheer to Errol into the future and a cheer to Errol who will live on and on in a tulip flower called “Captain Blood”!
You know how much Errol loved nature, he could describe nature more vividly and better than any writer ever could!
This tulip would be his Oscar right from the land of his birth!
Join me and make it happen!
Tina

Tina great post. As usual you are Errol's champion. This would really be a neat honor for him. I notice that the bulb company has been in the Van Dieman family for “over 100 years” and that's how long ago EF got his “start”. David, The Baron is a good choice too because the tulip really does look regal in the picture, but I'm not sure how many recognize the connection (well how many really know who Captain Blood is these days–I get funny looks whenever I mention the movie). Hope our choice wins!

The Baron was just a suggestion, Captain Blood is more recognizable at least to film fans and to Errol Flynn fans in particular!

Thanks everybody for voting and lets hope that Errol will win!
There are still a lot of votes outstanding from our authors and I sincerely hope that everybody will participate.
Just think how great it would be Errol having his own flower!

Hold on here, everyone–you need to stop and think this through. You all have good intentions but in the case of “Captain Blood”, the public at large could just as easily assume that the tulip's name is in in honor of Rafael Sabatini, who, after all, CREATED the name and story. It would be like trying to honor Greta Garbo by naming a flower the Anna Karenina. Voting for Errol by his film roles could very well backfire. Why not be more specific to Flynn, himself?

Thank YOU Tina for carrying this that bit further I just love what you are doing for Errol. In this case you have taken our story and turned it into an epic. I just loved the blurb that you put together and with your permission I will send it to the company to show them the passion. In regards to the name I looked at the tulip and thought straight away Captain Blood but also wrote suggesting both Captain Blood and Errol.

I agree with Robert. As I was reading the post about Captain Blood I thought it is not specific enough. Why not just try and get it named Errol Flynn. Also, some flowers, are in fact named after individuals. Just my humble opinion.

    Hi Diana;
Wow – we just talked yesterday about you coming back on the blog and here you are – that is the greatest!
Thank you for your kind words and I hope sincerely that Steve and Genene from Hobart will be successful when they will visit the Van Diemen Nursery with their petition to name the Tulip after Errol!
Great to see you back on the blog and I look forward to your future visits and great comments and postings like the one you just did about the mustaches. Errol just pops up over and over again! I thing he still draws some strings from the pretty white cloud he is sitting on!
    Welcome back – Tina
