Errol’s Good Luck Charm

03 Jun

An EFB Four Score Anniversary News Report: June 3, 1937

Harrison Carroll – Los Angeles Evening Herald Express

It took plenty of talk for Warner Bros to persuade Errol Flynn to remove a good luck chain from his neck for prize fight scenes in The Perfect Specimen. The charm was made from the first nugget taken out of the New Guinea gold fields. It was given to Flynn eight years ago by a priest. The actor takes it off for the first time for the picture.

    Hi Gentleman Tim,

I don’t know how to post on this blog, so I’ve put this link here as a reply.

This is a cameo Mr. Flynn did in a Doris Day movie. I had never heard of it before, and it’s a new post on YouTube, so I thought it may be new to some of the bloggers here. I hope you don’t mind.

Great video, Tony! Thanks for posting it. … What some girls will go for …

By the way, I believe that ‘orange juice’ and ‘milk’ exchange was an inside joke, because during that very timeframe Jack Carson, Dennis Morgan, Annie Sheridan, and Errol, used to all regularly scoot over to The Smokehouse (walking distance from Warner Brothers in Burbank and featured in LA LA Land) for much, much harder liquid refreshments.
