Mrs. William Tell is 90 and well

09 Jun

Dear fellow Flynn fans,

Austrian actress, Mrs. Waltraut Haas, Errol’s co- star of his unfinished appleshot “The Story of William Tell” turns 90 today.

She remembers Flynn fondly as charming not flirty, knowing his lines on cue and feasting on sardines, Rum and Coca Cola during their short cut stint in Courmayeur Italy: www.theerrolflynnblog.com…

She still is keeping busy appearing on stage at least once a year at the local Wachau summer theatre festival.

Starring opposite our Hollywood hero seems the equivalent of falling into a fountain of youth for his long-living leading ladies.

Some sort of caressing keelhauling if you will.

G’day and happy b’day,

They were merely rehearsing, Mountainman Tim and laughing a lot at that. The jodeling thing was a made up newspaper story and it soon turned into much howling and hollering when the financing fell flat.

Errol alias Will Tell was caught between two women in the abbandoned film, Alphorn Tim. One was blond haired Maria (Haas) the other one here was the tyrants toy, Italian brunette bombshell Antonella Lualdi.

Poor old boy, stuck up there in the Alps among all those spectacular peaks at the NoTell Hotel. Even at his ebb, Errol was the king.

Heinz; Great tribute to a beloved German film and recording star. The making and un-making of “The Story Of William Tell’ was a tragedy for Errol Flynn’s career and for those of us who love his films. Jack Cardiff would have been in demand as a director because he brought in a beautiful CinemaScope film starring bad boy Flynn on time and under-budget let alone be a hit at the box office. Waltraut Hass would have crossed the Atlantic to star in Hollywood films. Someday Heinz ‘will tell’ the real ‘Story Of William Tell’! Ralph Schiller

Mrs. Waltraut Tell fared well despite she never got to Hollyweird. Starring alongside Curt Jurgens and Heinz Rühmann she is one of the most renowed actresses on the European continent. Moreover she is a very approachable person for a bonafide diva. My story on Tell will tell where the monies of phoney count Fossataro really went, how Errol celebrated his birthday in Courmayeur and features a murderer lurking around the set, who was caught just in time before he could join the french legion. I will see that the appleshot is finished after all, if need be with a baseball bat, Rushstreet Ralph.
