    And this was before “They Died with Their Boots On”, which surely boosted Errol’s popularity to even further (mega)heights.

      Just as with women, stardom chased Errol Flynn, he didn’t chase it. Stardom chased him starting in the jungles of New Guinea, and it never stopped. Even when he decided to take his leave from Hollywood for a while, because creditors and tax collectors were becoming tiresome, his fans never left him. All he had to do was show up and the applause of his fans would blow the roof off the theater. The word “comeback” never applied to Errol Flynn. And when the spotlight shined on his world-weary face, and the thunder of applause shook the theater, he smiled with the joy of a child opening the gift Santa left for him under the tree. It was that heart of a child, sometimes mischievous, and sometimes sad, but always looking for adventure, that made him one of the most popular stars that ever lived.

          Tim, in viewing footage from live TV shows that Errol was in during the late1950s, I was amazed at the audience reaction to him. It was my understanding that his career was considered to be long over by that time. Yet, he was getting more applause and cheers than the top movie stars of the time.

          But when I looked up his personal credits on IMDb just now, I found that he had been in major productions every single year from 1935 to 1959. That’s a long time to be a headline star.

          Ok. So that explains all the fan fair in the late 1950s.

          But Errol Flynn’s star power seems to continue even to this day. Is it common for stars of the past to have the following that Errol Flynn has now?

          A lot of top movie and TV stars have written books over the years, but all of those books are long out of print. Aren’t they?

          Yet MWWW still keeps the presses humming after almost 60 years.

          There have been documentaries, and biopics of movie stars from times gone by, but they were few and far between.

          But off the top of my head, Flynn has three high dollar documentaries, one TV movie, one star studded movie, and another movie in the works.

          Not that other personalities of the past aren’t loved and respected.

          Really, I am unaware of continued interest in other great stars of days gone by. Do other stars of the past still have books in print? Are documentaries, and biopics still regularly being made of other movie stars of 50, 60, 70, or 80 years ago?

          I’m just trying to get some perspective here, for myself.

            I believe you’re right, Tony, Errol was and still in a league by himself. At this moment, I can only think of a few Hollywood actors that have such iconic staying power – Marilyn Monroe, John Wayne, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra and Elvis (more as singers, though). But Flynn was beyond them in so many ways, not only because of his unparalleled adventurous soul, renaissance spirit, athletic talents, intellect, writing abilities, sexual prowess, and foreign birth, but, perhaps most notably, because he was so very far ahead of his time.

    Wow, look who Our Man aced out that year….
    Such an underrated and under appreciated actor in most of his time!
