Was this mega-talented beauty Errol’s first girlfriend in LA LA Land? This is who he was often seen with during his early bachelor days in the U.S. Both he and Jack Warner say so in their autobiographies. Who was she and do you think there was any romance or hanky panky between the two?

I agree completely, Ralph! How could any red-blooded All -Australian-American man not have gone for this gorgeous creature – never mind Virile Errol!
In addition to being one of America’s first and greatest supermodels, she was a phenomenal athlete, and a TV pioneer.
In addition to being a champion swimmer and top-tier tennis player, she was in a movie with one of your favorite female star’s most career-important movies – before O.W. bleached her famous auburn hair, much to her Harry Cohn’s dismay.
Though she was American, she was once closely associated with Mexico, and a formerly very popular beer. If she was Errol’s girlfriend, she was definitely one the most gorgeous, most fun, and most talented of all.

Speaking of covers, I just got the May 1959 issue of Cavalier. I fell in love with that wonderful cover when I first saw it on an Errol Flynn biography. I skimmed through the article, and at the end Flynn is asked if he had to settle down, where would it be? In the very last line Flynn says “Hollywood, of course. Where else can you find that perfect combination, a wonderful climate and the greatest collection of unadulterated bastards in the whole world?” I laughed out loud!

Coincidentally, Ralph just brought up Harry Cohn in his comment below. Cohn was undoubtedly in the running for top of the heap in what Errol Cavalierly describes as “the greatest collection of unadulterated bastards in the whole world.” I imagine Errol regarded Jack Warner a contender, too – though Hollywood was overflowing with them.

Hey Tim! Great addition and thanks for all of your clues. Jinx Falkenberg was indeed a stunning-looking model and yes she was the first model of many selected to be ‘Miss Rheingold’ to represent the beer company. Ironically Jinx was actually born in Barcelona, Spain, and with her family migrated as Spaniard to Chile in South America. They left the country for America, Hollywood in particular. She did small film parts until she made it big as a model. Harry Cohn of Columbia Studios signed her up. She made a baker’s dozen (13) of films for that studio of which only ‘Cover Girl’ (1944) starring Rita Hayworth was an ‘A’ picture. Regarding Harry Cohn, and the Warner Brothers: I remember reading somewhere that most people who pioneered the movie industry were thugs and dirt bags from the theater business in NYC, and other big cities. These were low life gutter filth who clawed their way out of the sewers, and went to California to get rich in the emerging movie industry. Some of them got rich, and bought fine mansions, and well endowed women. But under those bespoke suits, they were still the same pigs who rolled around in shit in the back alleys of NYC whore houses.

No need to sugar coat it, Tony! Most of them were greedy, control-freak creeps. Take Louis Mayer (please), I believe he was a child abuser and sexual predator. Judy experienced her share of it. Then again, it’s been said that even some of the Munchkins took turns at her. (No wonder she didn’t thank “all the little people” when she got her Academy Award.)

Gentle”Lens”Tim – Not to undermine your comment here, for she was a real Yum-Yum of lady, and I prefer the glamour girls of those days compare to that of later and now, but you state; “America’s first and greatest supermodels”…. Well that’s not exactly true Ol’e Boy… although some may say Lisa Fonssagrives or Dorian Leigh were the first supper models, yet everyone else recognizes that the First and Real Supper Model was/is Janice Dickenson – I can assure you this I know from a personal standpoint, or should I say, lay-point, ahem! for she coined it herself and mentioned it to us along the way. She really was “Supper”, well we coined her that for other reasons then and I guess that word stayed in her head after actually becoming a Supper Model……
You see Janice went to school with me and a group of other hippies back then. We all knew that Janice was shoe in to make a name for herself in some form of fashion (no pun intended) – I’ve seen many a foot prints of hers in back seat windows; she had big feet! and thin long legs, which she used sooooo well!!
A few years later, I ran into her one day during the height in our careers, as I was visiting some musical chaps of mine at The Dakota (NY) building.
As she was known as somewhat of a whack job back in the day, she surely had grown into a real piece of work there after hitting the big time making all that ching-ching and glamour; her head had swelled to incredible proportions that there was not a hat that could fit on of it. I you remember the part when Flynn gets that present from Alexis Smith in Gentleman Jim after winning the belt from Jon Sullivan, then your in the same ballpark as to what I am saying here…..
As I mentioned, she was different and she was determined even though major agencies said she had no chance as model due to certain facial structure such as her nose for one, I remember her saying. But you have to hand it to her, she proved them all wrong and became, the “First” Supper Model as we know it today. And if you don’t believe me, ask her- she will be the first one to tell you so……

Well, well, Sergio! I’m on Sheridan in Hollywood this very moment. Not far from Pirate World of olde and even closer and more exciting to Janice Dickenson’s pre-Dakota haunts with you! I’ll keep an eye out for classic cars from the 60’s and 70′ to see if any still have those (super) big and illustrious footprints on the rear window.

I believe her big break really came after doing the album cover for Al Di Meola Elegant Gypsy in the mid/late seventies…

Sergio, That’s some very interesting information about Janice Dickinson. I looked her up, because I had never heard of her. She’s had an interesting life, the most interesting part is that she was very driven to succeed and apparently did. Like me, she’s from Brooklyn, and she’s about my age; I wonder if she ever turned me down for a date?

Yo Tony – We went to the same high school – before that I am not sure much of her past, but really don’t think you did – As far as I know she grew up from a very early age in Hollywood FL with the same “select” group of peeps that all hung out at the beach at night and other places as such; you know drug generation hippies we all were then…
I do know her always mentioning that her father was a real A-Hole, and things went on in that house that were very wacked out. Could be a big reason why she was so wild and nutty, and getting worst, every time I see her name in the headlines, she’s out making wacky claims…
By the way her younger sister Debbie did pretty well also in the same field of modeling, movies, etc. though she was not as nutty as Janice, and always wanted to hang, but was a little younger than us then….

Sergio, that’s interesting. Yeah, in those days everyone was getting high on tuninals, Qualudes, black beauties, acid, etc.
Her family life is the most influential thing here I think. It’s very sad that she grew up in a household like that. I think I would have preferred jumping into a pit of fire than to have gone through what she went through. Although, few of us have a perfect home-life like some 1960s TV family.
She was lucky to have a group to hang out with at least as s social outlet.
Well, I wish her well. And although she will never be happy, given her PTSD and the stressful field of work she got into etc, I hope she finds some joyful distractions, and moments of peace from time to time.
