His last name was identical to the storybook beautiful town where Olivia D’s sister lived, in a hillside “cottage” – “La Fontana” – overlooking the famously wondrous, white-sand beach, bay, and Pacific below.

P.S. He made “ten to fifteen cups of tea a day” for Errol.
Here’s E.F. having one with G.G., one NOT made by M.C.

Dang Tony, you are good! Must be that Brooklyn water you were weaned on!
Yes, it was US. Marine, secretary, cook, and ‘valet’, Max Carmel, whose name is very rarely recalled today. Flynn evidently liked him very much, but he was off to the war after Pearl, replaced in part by McEvoy’s valet Alex, I believe. Max not only made Errol a lot of tea, he also transcribed and typed Errol’s longhand writings. Additionally, he helped run a coffee shop for Errol across from the front gate of Warner Brother’s.
Even less well known (if that’s possible) is that his son, Gary Errol Carmel (known as “Chip”) wrote songs for Warner Brothers, The Association, and Lincoln Mayorga, among others, including this closing track to The Association’s 1968 “Birthday” album.

P.S. There’s an Amanda Broom (writer of “Errol Flynn”) connection through Lincoln Mayorga, for whom Chip Carmel was once a songwriter. I wonder if Amanda knows? Their fathers’ admiration for and relationships with Errol may have had some similarities, as may have their both “Growing Up in Hollywood Town”.

Thanks a ton for this trivia, Caramel Tim. That`s my cup of tea alright. I forever wanted to know more about Max Carmel, the (hench)man who drove Dr. Hermann Erben to the Mexican border to have him walk out of the country.www.facebook.com…
Errol would get a lot of desert heat for it via the FBI. Any photos?

More photos? Certainly, sirheinz. Here’s another of him sipping tea – this one from your neck of the Alps.

(Or, perhaps you meant photos of Max C. In which case, the answer is no, but please see my upcoming email to you, with a contact who may be able to help in that regard.)

No go on the email address I have for you, chelloheinz. So, I’ll have to wait for you to email me.
Btw, Errol had a hard time finding Max, too – during the war that is. He had a “package of several hundred dollars of fishing equipment” for Max, but couldn’t determine his location in the South Pacific, so asked the Navy Post Office in San Francisco to deliver it to him address unknown.

Ponyexpress Tim, mail me at: of****@me*********.at…
Errol may have gotten the lederhosen in the pic you posted in a famous mountain town in Austria. If so I am gonna find out. He is said to have resided in a posh hotel (infact he said so himself) where years prior the US army arrested a top notch nazi and sent him off express mail to the Nuernberg Trial. Can’t wait for your news!
