Going over stuff for 1943, and looking over a shoot at Mulholland with Errol and his artwork during the week of July 20th, before Errol left for Mexico. In a few of the pix Flynn is outside with a doberman pinscher.
My question: Is that Errol’s dog? … or was it Buster’s dog? … and regardless, what was the dog’s name?
Even Matzen’s book, which has a couple of pix of the dog, never mentions his name …

Errol owned a pack of Rhodesian Ridgebacks at one point, and ran quite the menagerie there of animals. No telling if this was his Dobie, or the photographer’s, or ???? I have wondered about the dog too. Wonder if he was just a “photo prop”.

These pictures were taken by Bert Six.
The seller of this (www.pinterest.com…) vintage photo describes it as “original 7.5″X9″ photo taken at his home with his doberman pinscher dog by photographer Bert Six. – There is the photographer’s stamp and snipe on the back”. I don’t know if the seller knows for a fact that the dog belonged to EF, or if it was an assumption on his part. www.ebay.com…

Hey Tony-
First time I am EVER sharing this… was waiting for just the right climate.
Back in the day, I visited the FDR Presidential Library, and down in the basement was a “Gift Room” devoted to just that – gifts that he and Eleanor received from the mighty and not so… and the attached is one of those items on display.
Fala (FDR’s Scotty) received this card (along with a steak, which of course did not survive to the present) from a unique “assemblage of senders”- the DOGS belonging to Warner Brothers’ stars.
I asked Lincoln Hurst at the time and he thought this was one INDEPENDENT of the canines and their owners knowledge and speculated it might have come from the publicity department. He proved to ultimately be right about this…
I did some further FLYNNSTIGATION, and confirmed that Bogie and Bette’s dogs went by these names, but as for the others I was unable to find out ANYTHING.In particular, Flynn’s reputed dog’s name was one I had NEVER encountered. What to do… but, wait a minute… there was one of these owners STILL ALIVE (back then), the UNDER APPRECIATED Joan Leslie. I wrote her, sending along a copy of this and to my GREAT DELIGHT, she wrote back a personal note, along with a then current photo with her dog. Her then dog’s name was named “Mike”, short for “Microphone”, and as for the Flynn’s or the others… she didn’t know…
So, I offer up this candidate’s name as a possible… solution?

Karl, it’s amazing that you remembered your long ago visit to the FDR Presidential Library and came up with this hidden piece of the puzzle, and documentation, just when it was needed! I’m beginning to think that the folks on this blog can find anything by putting together their intelligence and life experience.

That is one HELL of an EXCELLENT explication, as in~ “on the tip of his … ” but (the publicist?) had to make the deadline for not only National Dog Week but expiration date on the meat as well!
And Tony, you are right… this is one hell of a team of players and this fellow Tim is definitely, one of the ALL TIME GREATEST hitters in the Flynn league… along with MANY OTHER of his teammates!
