Pirate Party on Catalina Isle! First Appearance!

All Flynn followers are familiar with the brief appearance of Errol and Lily in Pirate Party on Catalina Island, but there was always a little confusion about when this quiet little short subject appeared. To help quell any more questions, here is a clip from the Los Angeles Times newspaper of Feb. 12, 1936, page 11.

 

It premiered with the Charlie Chaplin film Modern Times.

    AK do you or does anyone else on this group, have a watchable link to the short film?

    I was raised on Catalina Island, having uncles, aunts and great aunts living there in Avalon. I remember my dad and his brother coming off the mountain with wild pig on a stick they shouldered between them. I rode ponies and went back and forth from the mainland on the glass bottom boats. It was a wonderful place then…

    Hello and Ahoy TZ! So cool your Catalina history!

    There used to be a YouTube link or two with the full, wonderful film of Pirate Party on Catalina Isle. But it appears they have been taken down. There are though several clips available, including this rather substantial one with a glimpse of Errolili @ 4:32 – 4:38.

    Great find, Ada. Later, post Modern Times, Pirate Party was sometimes coupled also with Robin Hood … Robin Hood of Eldorado, that is.

      Please triple-check me, Topper, but perhaps there was a showing even earlier in Utah, playing with “Ah Wilderness”, advertised here [in the Provo Daily Herald, page 7, bottom left advertisement] on January 10, 1936 ?
