Blimey, to Shelley Flynn smelled limey

12 Dec

Dear fellow Flynn fans,

those of us who read Academy Award winress Shelley Winter`s autobiography “Shelley, also known as Shirley” are well aware that she and Flynn had a fling going on. It dated back when our Hollywood hero was inbetween marriages two and three. She remembered him warmly and smelley…again that`s Shelley!

Enjoy,

sensational, blimeyheinz! I better run out and get some Old SpiceLime for Christmas before the general population gets wind of this. Maybe I can “make things happen”. … Btw, is that The Zaca on that there bottle?

(On second thought, I don’t want no Chilly Winter types boarding my yacht. What was Errol thinking (with)? Perhaps Ma Barker served him a Mickey Flynn tainted with an especially bad batch of Chanel No. 13 Eau de Toilette.)

I hear you Captainman Tim. Shelley was more than a handful, while the other half of their doubledate Yvonne DeCarlo, was handled nicely, shall we say cup by cup, by Errol`s mate Clark. Definitely more my cup of tea also.

Aye, mateyheinz, I’ll toast a couple of cups to Lily de Carlo. No Chilly Winters with her! Up that mast, aloft! No monkeys (or monkey glands) required!

Wouldn’t it have been something to have seen her and Norma Jean at the Florentine Gardens (minus Miss Short, of course.)

Maybe Errol learned the leaves trick from Yvonne?

The Black Dahlia was a psycho`s substitute for the likes of Yvonne DeCarlo, Hedy Lamarr, Ava Gardner and that lady in the photo above pictured prominently in “Scarlett Street”. This movie was just around the Errol`s corner featuring paintings exclusively made by his painter pal John Decker and starring Edward G. Robinson, an actor and art connaisseur much like Flynn. The film shaped the horror things to come, when Elizabeth`s life was cut short. More to frown: www.theerrolflynnblog.com…

Wouldn’t be surprised if Captain Flynn slapped on some bay leaves and bay rum out on the high seas, sailorheinz. Anything to help keep the scurvy away, although maybe not all the curvy scurvy.

According to the “Celebrity Fragrance Guide” Errol was known for wearing the cologne: Cuir De Russie. Cuir De Russie (created for him). Not sure how true that is –

According to Nobel Prize winner Winston Churchill Russia is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. Very much like our Errol. Right, Maid Maria? He may have used his favorite fragrance Wodka with a twist for an ordeurvre. Much like his rogue rolemodel John Barrymore: anelegantobsession.com…

I investigated this a couple of years back and believe ir’s true, Maria. This ‘Cuir de Russe’ was a creation of Creed, the legendary parfumist of Paris. A “Private Collection” version of this can be purchased, but it may not be the same exact formula or contain the same quality of scents as what was created for Errol, which, it’s been said, was the first cologne made specifically for a non-royal male celebrity.

Here’s a history of Creed, followed by a photo of their Private Collection Cuir de Russe. Please keep in mind, however, that there’s some mystery in this history.

Heinz; I read Shelley Winters autobiography and enjoyed it. However I later read Yvonne de Carlo’s autobiography where she accused Winters of libel concerning the double date of Winters, Flynn, Gable and de Carlo. First of all Ms. de Carlo said that story was a complete lie because she never met Clark Gable until ten years later when she made the Civil War film “Band Of Angels” (1957) in which he co-starred with her at Warner Bros! She also said she never dated either man. Thanks Ralph Schiller

RR, U R right. Shelley`s bio is entertaining while highly disagreeable. She recalled her Errol encounters as dreamlike, thus´ leaving the reader to decide wether to believe them or not. As far as luscious Lili Munster goes, I think she had rather put a blankett over the assignments as a lily of Florentine Gardens.
