Hi Volker, this is absolutely wonderful and very precious too for us to see the area in detail is the priceless!
Errol, I am sure sitting on his white cloud is very happy to have been awarded this very special area, being a dog exercise heaven as he loved animals so very much and dogs especially!
I have pictures of the signes and will post them one day, but seeing the ares on video is devine!
Thank you so very much for it and all the other reports you sent to us sure brings us much closer to the lad we all love!
I wish you all the very best and thank you for your kindness to be able to have a look into a landscape we otherwise would never see!

Thanks for uploading. If you want to see more of Tasmania I would recommend renting ‘The Hunter’ with William Dafoe. It’s about the search for the Tasmanian Tiger. The film is shot in Tasmania and shows scenes of Mount Wellington and Mount Field National park where the last Tiger was captured.

Really nice video, Volker. It’s really sad, though, that the city council felt the need to sully the tribute by including the sordid aspects of Flynn’s life. Isn’t it enough and more respectful, in the context of an historical marker, to herald one’s achievements? Hobart–and Australia in general–doesn’t seem to know how to properly address it’s most famous son. Thank goodness for Hobartans like the Randells.

I couldn’t agree more, Robert! It was shocking to read what was chosen to be included in this regard – a bit of creative editing with a white marker would be most welcome! I jest, of course! I do not encourage anybody to deface public property, even under cover of darkness or just at dusk when not a lot of people are around…

I would–it’s our Errol, after all. What are we, men: heroes and pirates, or spineless landlubbers?!!

I just read for the first time what is actually written on the number 1 of the 1909 sign, which I thought should be in honor of Errol! I have a picture of it but it is unreadable.
Wow – a loving stroke and a slap in the face at the same time – what an odd way to express their caring for one of the nations most famous son!

Who ever is the author of these choice of words and /or the approving committee should have hired a consultant with expertise in how to honor people with proper wording. If no better words about Errol could be found amongst the responsible body it would have been far better to say nothing – nothing at all!

Hello, everyone! While I agree with you, Tina to an extent; that what is written on the number one, may seem like a left-handed compliment, it does speak to that reputation Flynn ‘has of being a “bad boy” or as he is called in “Strange Auction”, a shameless rascal”! Still there is nothing untruthful about what they say about him.–A. R.

            Hi A.R.;
I just don’t see it that way at all – sorry to say! I always heard and I am sure so have you and for that matter most people.
“You never speak ill of the dead!” Nor did Errol hit ever anybody when they were down! He was a most fair man!
Furthermore, the media made him out to be the so called “bad boy” he supposedly was, yet he was far from it. He very much longed for some peace as he was mostly chased for one thing or another and not just woman.
He never ever was a shameless rascal!
Why would otherwise people who knew him well say of him the following:
“Errol Flynn was distinguished by his simple and friendly nature!”
“For him life was a fun game, without prejudice!”
“People said he drank to much and it was true, but he knew drinking because he was a gentleman before and after several toasts!”
“He played with us like a kid, he was a lovely person, he
spent so much time to play with the children!”
“He was a sea of good; anyone would have been delighted to be with him!”
“He was a most humble man that a person can imagine!”
“He was a humane and a very correct person!”
” He was a great conqueror and he was a heavy drinker but he was a gentleman in all respects!”
There is a lot more one could quote who Errol really was and that should be brought forth to see the real man he was underneath all the untrue malarkey the media shoved into his shoes.
And as the saying goes – “there are always two sides to a coin!”
In my books when you do something, you do it well or not at all!
Please try to see the man Errol rally was! Tina
