Hello tassie devil. i’m not saying Errol was born in Ireland, or was full-blooded Irish, only that he had some Irish DNA and roots. I believe the Flynn family (that is, his father’s family) came to Australia from Ireland. More specifically, Professor Flynn’s grandparents have been reported to be from Counties Leitrim and Meath. See, for example, this article:

      www.irishnews.com…

The other person in this “Flynn-Related Quiz” wasn’t born in Ireland either (he was born and raised in New York City), but did have very significant levels of Irish DNA. In fact, his Irish heritage figured prominently in his career as a leading political supporter of FDR. (Coincidently, he was also Roosevelt’s choice for Minister to Australia.)

Here is a map including Counties Leitrim and Meath, from where Errol’s paternal family hailed.

Despite that they both knew the Roosevelts, and that FDR nominated our mystery man to be his Minister to Australia, their connection is (allegedly) etymological, not social or political, nor related to cinema or acting in any way.

Additionally, they have idential first and last initials, i.e. E.F.

E.F. 2 had a very long and strong relationship with the organization that previously owned the building depicted below.

an unofficial “Bronx” bomber… shares the same b’day as meself!

      Edward Joseph FLYNN

      From Wicki:

“He was a close associate of President Franklin D. Roosevelt for many years, and helped Roosevelt through all of his elections, but repeatedly refused offers of jobs in the Roosevelt Administration. He did accompany Roosevelt to the Yalta Conference remaining in Europe afterwards to carry out various missions for the president, until his trip was cut short by Roosevelt’s death.

In 1947, Flynn published You’re the Boss, a memoir of his experiences in politics.

Flynn was one of the driving forces behind Harry S. Truman’s 1948 election victory.

Flynn died in 1953 while on a visit to Ireland. His papers were given by his family to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Library, to be available for the public.

The phrase “in like Flynn” has sometimes been claimed to be a reference to Flynn, though its folk etymology more frequently associates it with actor Errol Flynn. Etymologist Eric Partridge presents evidence that candidates Flynn backed were almost automatically “in,” citing usage during Flynn’s life that refers to him.”

Congratulations, Sir Karl! You are In Like Flynns. Personally, I think Mr. Partridge is perching up the wrong tree.

I don’t know if Errol and Ed ever met, but they were both at the World’s Fair in ’39, Ed as Commissioner, Errol in the Westinghouse time capsule, resurfacing in like 4,911 years or so. Seems like a long wait, but time flies when your a Flynn.

Here’s Errol and Ed, alleged etymological cousins and friends of Franklin.
