To all Flynn aficionados out there, I’m looking for the name of this ship, that was in Errol’s den. I think it was a Dutch man of war, but I don’t know. I have seen many ships on the internet and on many ship model makers that are very similar but it isn’t this exact ship.
I also think that this ship model could be one of the smaller models used in Captain Blood and the model dept at Warners could have given this to Flynn as a gift. They must have copied it from photos of a real ship that had a name to it.
I have a close-up view of this ship but for some reason, I can’t post it in my post here. I’m looking to have a replica made of this ship for my home office. Any help in finding this ship or the name would be an awesome help to me. I’m calling on Gentleman Tim who can find just about anything on Flynn…

Before I search further, have you had a chance to check if this is the Aemelia, flagship of the Netherlands’ great 17th Century Supreme Commander of the Fleet, Admiral Tromp?
Hard to tell from this photo especially, Jack, but it looks similar. (Plus, I suspect drawings and models may vary and not perfectly replicate ships that disappeared before photography.)

P.S. His son also became Supreme Commander of the Dutch Fleet, and Denmark’s, too, I believe.

If it however was a model that did movie time, Treasureman Tim, the „ Albatross“ of Sea Hawk fame could be a contender. My doubloons are on the Bounty though as stated before.

The possibility that this is the Aemelia (Dutch equivalent of Amelia) is extra-intriguing to me because Errol (at the very time of this photo taken, I believe) was in love with a young women he calls Amelia in MWWW.
Tromp was a huge Naval hero in The Netherlands. The country’s “greatest” poet wrote this about him and his legendary “last stand”.
Here rests the hero Tromp, the brave protector
of shipping and free sea, serving free land
his memory alive in artful spectre
as if he had just died at his last stand
His knell the cries of death, guns’ thunderous call
a burning Brittany too Great for sea alone

Thanks for adding the second image, Jack. I think that makes it clear that it’s not the Aemelia. From looking around, I believe you’re right that it may be a Dutch Man of War, probably from the late 17th Century, or possibly the early 18th Century. Could be British, though, but, to me, doesn’t appear to be Spanish or French. I sure wish they had left the flag(s) on it! (Of course, there’s a chance this is a totally fictional ship, or a composite design, using artistic license, made specifically for one of Warner’s Captain Blood or Sea Hawk films, or another film altogether.)
If it is Dutch, it may be easier to identify, as they may not have as famous men of war as England or Spain. Don Jan, are you out there with any knowledge of the old Dutch fleet?
Btw, if we can count the number of guns, we should be able to narrow down the possibilities, especially as this ship appears to have had a whole lot of guns! … I can count them exactly on the cell phone I’m presently on. Can anyone count the gun holes, and then we can multiply by 2.

Captain Jack, I salute you from one of Errol‘s old stomping haunts, Cherbourg, in France where by sheer synchronicity a real life Spanish Armada Ship anchored today. It‘s called La Galera and is a replique of a XVI century galley. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the effort for finding this picture of La Galera. Is there a full side view? I can’t tell with the picture you posted. I have looked at so many ship models on many sites. You have to look at the circle gunports that are white on the Flynn model. I just think this is model from either Captain Blood of maybe the Sea Hawk. Thanks again for your effort

Jack, la Galera is a floating museum and swims from port to port here in Normandy. It’s the prototype of Spanish shipmenscraft of the 16th century. The question is if Errol went for a 1:1 copy of one of his film ships or if he settled for a stand in model.

Calling Captain Jack from Mont St. Michel. Normandy and Bretagne are prolific grounds for tracking down your dream boat. Look what I have found in a gift shop in this World heritage town: a marvellous model of the BOUNTY with fullblown sails. She’s yours for a cool $ 300.
