    I’ll start with the second question, Tim, although both are almost equally difficult to answer.

    In my humble opinion the three that should be regarded his greatest are:
    The Adventures of Robin Hood (simply because it’s a masterpiece in every regard – cast, music, costumes, just everything)
    Gentleman Jim (it’s exciting, funny, and touching at the same time)
    The Dawn Patrol (superb acting on Flynn’s part, a great cast, and a touching story – one that everybody should know who thinks war is a good thing).

    Now for my ten favorite Flynn movies, it’s impossible to make a list according to my preferences because they change quite often (guess I’m entitled to that as a woman). In addition to the three movies I mentioned above, I guess I’d pick the following:

    Captain Blood (it’s so easy to see why he became a star with this one – his youthful energy and charm is just overwhelming)
    The Perfect Specimen (he sure had a talent for comedy)
    The Sea Hawk (prototype of a swashbuckler)
    Virginia City (not just because parts of it were filmed around Sedona, one of my favorite vacation areas)
    They died with their boots on (another great performance by Flynn, and probably the most touching scene he ever filmed with Olivia)
    Uncertain Glory (more great acting in an unusual role)
    Adventures of Don Juan (I just love his tongue-in-cheek performance)

    I guess I could easily add ten more – picking only ten is really difficult, Tim!

    I have been busy but wanted to reply. This is so interesting. Everyone having their favorites. So many to choose from. Well here goes starting with my personal favorite.

    1. The Adventures of Robin Hood. My favorite movie of all time. In all aspects a masterpiece.
    2. The Dawn Patrol
    3. The Sun also Rises
    4. Sea Hawk
    5. Gentleman Jim
    6. Objective Burma
    7. Captain Blood
    8. The Roots of Heaven
    9. That Forsyte Woman
    10. Rocky Mountain-Kim-The Prince and the Pauper-The Big Boodle-Too Much Too Soon et cetera et cetera et cetera

    The only 2 I didn’t like…. Cuban Rebel Girls and Mutiny on the Bounty

    Flynntastic choices and input, Claudia and Bob!! I am particularly struck how you each ranked Dawn Patrol in your Top Three!

    My Top Ten personal favorites (this morning!) are (in approximate order):

    The Adventures of Robin Hood

    They Died with Their Boots On

    Gentleman Jim

    Captain Blood

    Sea Hawk

    Dodge City

    Dawn Patrol

    Prince and the Pauper

    The Adventures of Don Juan

    Charge of the Light Brigade

    As Top Three Greatest, I select (today!):

    The Adventures of Robin Hood

    They Died with Their Boots On

    Gentleman Jim

    Definitely among my top favorites is Cruise of the Zaca, but I left off this favorites list because it’s a “short”, and because it’s a documentary in which Flynn is a non-acting subject.

    I hope everyone weighs in with their various selections.

    Since you asked for it, Topten Tim, here’s my sincere selection:

    1. The adventures of Robin Hood- from bow to arrow the most entertaining action movie ever
    2. Gentleman Jim- Errol Flynn could box in a tux and sing like a bee
    3. Don Juan- art imitating real life and a humorous hommage to his mentor John Barrymore

    Now on to the seven mighty dwarfs…

    4. Sea Hawk
    5. Captain Blood
    6. Charge of the light brigade
    7. Dodge City
    8. The Sun also rises
    9. Against all flags
    10. The Master of Ballentrae

    GREAT lists all!

    Alas, hard limit this 10… there is too much that gets left out, and just like the Oscar for best this and best that- they all involve categories.

    So with that deliberate work around, here goes…

    Signature performances: Blood, Hood, Charge

    Humor: Never Say Goodbye, Juan

    Dramatic: Dawn, Uncertain Glory, Burma, Rocky

    Moments of Greatness: Let’s Make Up , Too Much, Sun

    Exceptional: Prince, Kim

    So GLAD he did Kim over King Soloman- not only there were a number of GREAT stories (shared by his fellow players) but, equally, there must have been a certain SATIFACTION playing in disguise (the goat herder) just as Barrymore ALSO did in Bulldog Drummond Comes Back and Twentieth Century.

    And for BOTH, late in their careers.

    One final Barrymore connection worth noting… and it is not from film.

    In 1957, Flynn briefly starred in the play Master of Thornfield. And a FEATURED co-star was Blanche Yurka. She, in fact, played opposite Barrymore as Queen Gertrude in the 1922 New York production of Hamlet.

      What I wonder, Don Karlos, is, if Errol could have pulled off a memorable prince of denmark. If I remember well, he flirted with the idea, also pitching it to the media to play Hamlet like his idol- the great profile: youtu.be/x2jWx4IqgEM…

    So far, as we wait for further authoritative input from EFB authors around the globe, it looks like Robin Hood will win the golden arrow. But, the contest is not over. Time to move back the target (to a distance suitable distance for the EFB’s arch-authors!)
