ERROL’S EIGHT DOUBLE ‘O’ FILMS

Has any actor ever had a higher percentage of double ‘o’ films than Errol?

Eight of Errol’s films have ‘oo’ words in their titles.

That’s approximately 14.8% of all his movies.

Here are Errol’s “Double O” Eight:

CAPTAIN BLOOD (1935)

THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD (1938)

FOOTSTEPS IN THE DARK (1941)

THEY DIED WITH THEIR BOOTS ON (1941)

NEVER SAY GOODBYE (1946)

THE BIG BOODLE (1957)

TOO MUCH TOO SOON (1957)

ROOTS OF HEAVEN (1958)

O o what could‘ve been if Flynn had been assigned 007 in the mid 1950s. Alexander Korda had the film rights, but opted out. Linda Christian took on Peter Lorre as baddie Le Chiffre in a Jimmy Bond US TV special instead. With Cubby Broccoli finally at helm of the most successful franchise they surly had Errol on their mind, only he had gone by then already.

Compare Errol’s 14.8% to the double ‘o’ feature film filmographies of his contemporaries. For example, alphabetically: Henry Fonda, Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart, and John Wayne.

    HENRY FONDA – ~3.4%

    The Moon’s Our Home

    The Man Who Understood Women

    There was a Crooked Man

    CARY GRANT – ~2.8%

    Room for One More

    Father Goose

    JIMMY STEWART – ~ 5.2%

The Man Who Knew Too Much

    Bell, Book and Candle

    Fools Parade

    The Shootist

    JOHN WAYNE – ~ 2.4%

    Tycoon

    Blood Alley

    Rooster Cogburn

    The Shootist

Could Errol’s extraordinarily high number and percentage of “double o” films” just he a coincidence or fluke?

One thing for sure, Errol had the greatest trio of “double o films” in Hollywood history.:

    The Adventures of Robin Hood
    Captain Blood
They Died with Their Boots On

And all available in this collection:
