A Star is Born – Again

08 Oct

And Hollywood’s Gone Ga Ga.

tinyurl.com…

How good could Flynn have been as Norman Maine? Great. Better than all the rest, I believe.
(As long as they didn’t make him sing!)

Flynn’s Film? Errol’s Oscar?

ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR (AND FIVE?)

tinyurl.com…

Ga Ga Land (2018)

Not So Funny Girl (1976)

Judy Judy Judy (1954)

Hooray for Hollywood? (1937)

The First Star is Born? (1932)

Who do you think is best in the leading roles?

Constance Bennett, Janet Gaynor, Judy Garland, Barbara Streisand, or Lady Ga Ga?

Lowell Sherman, Fredric March, Janes Mason, Kris Kristofferson, Bradley Cooper?

Do you agree with this ranking?

My choices are Garland and Mason. Errol would have been excellent in the role of course. Mason was so good as Rommel in The Desert Fox I’m sure that was a factor. The irony is that none of male actors in the leading roles were close to being “washed-up”… typical of hollywood then and now.

I totally agree that WHAT PRICE HOLLYWOOD was one of the inspirations. The first A STAR IS BORN was an amalgamation of the stories of the Barbara Stanwyck/Frank Fay, Colleen Moore/John McCormick, and Virginia Bruce/John Gilbert marriages as well. I think there is also a healthy dose of John Barrymore in the Norman Maine character.

Also, I really like the new version. Please see it before you judge :)

Thank you, Paula. I was very reluctant to go, but in light of your recommendation, I did go last night and enjoyed it very much. I thought much of it was extraordinary, most particularly the acting, singing, and on-screen chemistry between Ally and Jack.
