I was just wondering why the blog is so quiet? Has anybody any answers for this phenomena? Or is everybody on March Break (Canadian school holiday) with their children – grandchildren? Do you have this vacation in the good old USA too?
David worked so hard on this move and what a great job he did! The silence is somewhat eerie! No stories about our beloved lad? No comments, no difference of opinion – wow!
I for one, miss all of you and your great insights and fabulous tidbits! I am really getting lonely nobody to talk to! Not even a good old silly quiz – nothing – nothing at all!
Come on my dear fellow authors, please lets get active again!
I send you all my best wishes for good heath and happiness!

Hello David and Tina – I have noticed the same thing. The blog is very quiet. I attribute the silence to a reaction to the new format. By the way, Tina, did you do the sketch of Errol? Whether you did or not, the sketch is terrific! Lynn

WordPress just doesn’t act the way we are all used to and setting it up to behave in an easy to use manner is problematic because of the way our files were transferred. It is very confusing and there is no email support for WordPress. You are lost in a sea of support forum questions and answers. I am trying to make sense of it all. What must be understood is that we were about to lose The Errol Flynn Blog entirely. It was suggested by our former host that a move to WordPress would give us more options than we had before and it does if you can implement them correctly. I have yet to add back in our list of links because of dealing with other issues that the blog presents. It is like we went through a transporter on Star Trek and came out with things not quite in the same places! This thing about the main page being a category of the blog is boiling my brains! I am experimenting with how to deal with it – so please bear with me!
Additionally, we lost all of our attachments! This means going to the old blog site which still exists until March 31 and pulling off all of the attachments to every post and then manually putting them back into the right posts here. Lots of work. Anybody who wants to go back and grab their own attachments then put them where they belong please contact me.
The blog has always had quiet periods. It is a natural ebb and flow. New subscribers are adding up fast, and that is nice to see!
But there is quite a learning curve here. Figuring out how to post is not that big a deal but how to add photo galleries, etc., is difficult. Check out the FAQ section for information that is a bit fluid right now.
I have now reset the Main Page category to not be excluded from the Front Page! We had two main pages running at the same time but let’s see if this helps! I apologize for the flip-flopping way things are running. It has not been an easy transition by any means and will be confusing until things are settled down and lots more work is done to reconstruct things.

Thanks for all the info, David — for keeping us up-to-date on blog matters. It’s very much appreciated.
And I’m still here, even if I may not be posting so much. :-)

Dear David, I don’t envy you it must be a most frustrating job to get this all sorted out.
I know from a friend that WordPress has no personal support to help anybody, I really wonder why they are so aloof? But then there are other software companies like that. Adobe is another one, they are ok with things you purchase but like the Adobe Flash Player – if you have problems you are out in the cold. That’s the fun with Cyberspace!
Keep on plugging! We are grateful!

Hi David – Something else I noticed which might be key to the “quiet” on the blog – I had an E-Mail option which I chose in the previous blog which allowed me to receive an E-Mail whenever any comment or posting was added to the blog. I’m not getting these E-Mails now which might account for myself and other blog members not knowing when there is something new on the blog to react to. After logging in I saw many comments which I did not know had been posted. Is there an E-Mail setting blog members can adjust? Lynn

I received an e-mail when comments were made on my posts before? Will I now receive a notification on EVERY comment that is made on EVERY post? In that case, please turn it off for me. Thanks.

I’ve turned it off. I will look for a plugin that allows you to receive comments only on your own posts! Ok, I found one called Comment on Post and activated it. Authors will receive comment notices on their own posts and will have some links to use, as well – There is nothing to sign up for, this will happen automatically for each post you publish on the blog!

Lynn, I have set you up to receive email notifications. If anybody also wants this option – please let me know. I have decided against making it a default option – it will just fill up a lot of inbox’s that already have a lot of mail coming in and besides, it’s nice to ask first!

Hi David – Thanks for doing this, but I’ve noticed that I’m receiving E-Mail notifications for posts that were made in 2011! Is there any way to receive notifications for newly made posts only? Thanks! Lynn

Lynn, I don’t know why this happened. I am learning about the way wordpress operates right along with everybody else – and it is a daily surprise! I imagine that the software is trying to catch up with comments you missed! The odd thing about wordpress is that there is no support. Instead, we have a jumble of questions and answers to sift through and it is quite extensive. You could search all day for answers to questions like yours, and I have done it!

Hello David,
I’d really appreciate a tip on how to get the old attachments back. In my case I still have the photos on my own harddrive, so I don’t need to pull them off the old blog. I just haven’t found a way to put them back as an attachment. I only found out how to insert them into a post, but this is not what I want.

Volker, there is a way to attach photos. In the Add New Post window click Upload/Insert. You will be presented with a box with tabs above it. Choices are From Computer. From URL. Media Library. FIGA Gallery.
From Computer: you must upload the image. Afterwards, you see a box with options.
Under Link URL you will see a button called Attachment Post URL. Click this button and the url of the photo becomes the URL of its attachment address. Copy/Past this address into your post.
From URL:
Image is selected by default. Url and Title are required. Your image can be hosted on another site using this option. You can also make the image into a link.
The options under Gallery are the same.
Let me know if I can help answer any more questions!

Hi Lynn;
You are very kind trying to give me credit for such artistic talent. Can you hear my “sigh” and the words “Yea – I wish I could”
What about you Lynn placing a quiz? Would be fun!

Tina! You did not use the code to insert an image. The code for inserting an image is located on the FAQs page.

Tina, I will email you code that you need to do what I did with the caricature! It is a matter of inserting the url of the image into the code and setting its height and width to fit in the comment area without distorting the page –

That has to be one of the best caricatures I have ever seen! But then; I have never seen anything based on a likeness of Errol that I wouldn’t love.. I am so biased in my opinion…
