    I’m only going to comment here on the TOUGH ones…

    There were a number of stumpers (particularly in the women department)… especially given your choice, GT, in not so representative photos (in all cases)… but then that’s what a quiz is for 8-)

    DO look up some of these more unfamiliar names and discover their varied and assorted back stories … very interesting (as Arte Johnson used to say- and inspried by the film Desperate Journey for that memorable line).

    Rosemary Lane (#5) I have always found to be a hard one given her many “photographic” looks.

    Jean Parker (#9) looked like she coulda passed for yet another Lane sister… was there (besides Leota, Lola and Priscilla)?

    Lya Lys (#14) STILL another “passing” sister?

    #20, Gloria Dickson

    #23, Clair Windsor

    #24, Francis Robinson… another Life Mag photo shoot aboard a Flynn yacht perhaps?

    #25, FBI Special Agent Leon G Turrou- what in the hell was he doing there… spying on Flynn?

    PS In that last… were they trying to throw Jack Warner off the “back of the bus” so to speak?

        However, King Karl, you appear to have overlooked or omitted one of the greats of the Silver Age! Pictured above, he was the strong, silent type. Made many films. At one point in time, his famous costar (also pictured above) is said to have received more fan mail than any other actor in the world.

          You are NO DOUBT referring to Buck Jones (one of the KINGS of the “B” westerns) and his equally beloved horse, Silver, in mind with this reference?

          And you ARE right~ guilty of overlooking and omitting them BOTH!

            Buck yes, Karl! It was Buck and Silver Buck Jones!! For a number of Silver Age cinema years, it was hard to keep up with the Joneses. But it all ultimately went up in flames in the infamous Cocoanut Grove Fire of 1942 …not in Hollywood, but in Boston, of all places. 492 Dead. Buck was number 481.

            The only silver lining is that Silver was not there. It was the worst nightclub fire in history.

            By the way, there’s evidence that The Lone Ranger’s “Hi-Yo Silver” was “borrowed” from Buck’s very similar-sounding “Hi-Ho Silver”.

      Karl – Regarding your comment on Nazii hunter, Leon G. Torrou, at first I laughed at the thought of him spying on (H)Errol – then I realized that HangupbHoover would have definitely tried to capitalize on Leon Torrou’s connections in Tinseltown, and may even have known something of Hermann Erben’s alleged espionage.

      Here’s the G-Man shooting at a party attended by the E-man on January 13, 1939. Quoting a Warners history website:

      “Former FBI agent Leon G. Turrou also takes aim at the mirrors. Turrou was the lead investigator into a Nazi spy ring operating in the United States, and wrote a series of articles about the investigation. It was these articles that formed the basis for the first explicitly anti-Nazi movie made by a Hollywood studio, Confessions of a Nazi Spy, which Warner Bros. would release later in 1939.”

      “Leon George Turrou (September 14, 1895 – December 10, 1986) was an American special agent and translator with the Federal Bureau of Investigation who was tasked with leading an investigation that located and interrogated Nazi German spies within the United States. He also became the author of a popular book at its time called Nazi Spies in America. His writings were adapted into the film, Confessions of a Nazi.”

      Looks like a possible party pooper to me. And I don’t mean Nazi Party pooper.

    Here they are, in the order reported by Jimmy Starr to have been “ushered through wildly gesticulating crowds”. Plus, I added Silver and Anne Shirley. I suspect Silver was one of the “sixteen equine stars” that rode in a “palace car”: Anne was definitely along for the ride and there for the party.
