Calling Robert and all painting experts!

17 Mar

Who is able to tell me as to who is the painter of this picture and what is the title of it?

I know this is a famous painting, but I am not able to put my finger on it!  Your expertise would be gratefully appreciated as I found a picture related to Errol with more info to follow!

      Hi Inga;
      The word is “WOW’ the only one I can think of!
      You sure are a genius no doubt about that! How did you find it so fast? I tried to look on the Internet but had no luck. Of course you as an artist yourself must have ways we non-talented people are oblivious about. Thank you so much and what a wonderful picture it is – I love it!
      I now have to research the list of ownerships, wish me luck unless you have an “in” with that too? Any hint would be greatly appreciated. I think it belonged to Errol or he purchased it at one time and gave it as a gift. I am not sure but I want to find out.
      Thank you so much for your help, which is very much appreciated!
      Btw., Robert is totally in absentia, I wonder where he is roaming?
      Take care!

        Tina, it was not so difficult. The quality of your picture was so bad (where did you get it from actually) that I thought it was a lady. So I googled “Boy and Lady” which brought up pic of Bugs Bunny. When I added “Old Painting”, I just had to go through a few pages of search results and had it. So not very difficult.
        Maybe you should contact the Royal Academy of Arts for the question of ownership as it currently is there. They might be able to tell you where they got it from. www.racollection.org… What is your source actually that says that Errol might have owned it?

      I have written to various places who maybe could give me an ownership verification but did not receive an answer yet, hopefully I will get it one day or find an another avenue to get the answer to this question.
      Why it would be nice to know is because of this picture I found and of which I cropped my published picture of “Boy and Rabbit” therefore of such bad quality. I thought maybe it is one of Errol’s former paintings.

        Seeing that picture it seems more likely that it was in Lili’s possession, don’t you think? Because they were separated at the time and Lili certainly did not go to Errol to have her photo taken, especially since some time ago, we had the discussion when there was contact between father and son. Maybe on the picture, there is also only a copy (which seems likely).

          Hi Inga;
          Like with everything and anything when it comes to Errol the oddest thing is possible and it also is possible that it is only a reproduction, but on the other hand it could be the original too. I know that Lili wasn’t with Errol anymore at that time the picture was taken, but maybe it could have been a present from Errol at one time or another. We all know that Errol was very interested in art. Maybe he tried to interest her in art and gave it to her for an unknown occasion and she took it with her when she moved to Florida.
          It is also possible that the interior decorator purchased a copy for her, that is if she had an interior decorator to furbish her new home in Florida.
          We all know from Errol’s statement that Lili wasn’t interested in anything else but shoes, handbags, wardrobe, perfume, etc. In that case I doubt that she was interested in art but then maybe she was.
          Or …… the speculation is wide open!
          My thought, if she had the original maybe we could find out if she or Errol were the owners at one time.
          Again my thought, If found out that Errol really was the owner of it at one time it would add another oil painting to the record we have already established. Maybe far fetched yet on the other hand there is a possibility?
          Think about it! Let me know of what possibilities you could think of. Seeing it from my side, it’s all in the quest of all our researching interests of Errol.

            Everything you speculated about is possible, Tina, and as long as you have not got a reply from the Academy, we can think about other ways, too. :-)

    “BOY WITH RABBIT” or ” BOY AND RABBIT “. It is by Sir Henry Raeburn, one of the greatest of the Scottish painters ( 1756-1823 ). A copy is on Ebay. I love the this picture of Lili and Sean. I have not seen many pictures of a young Sean. Robert is around because he was posting on Facebook!

      Hi Kathleen;
      Great to hear from you again!
      After genius Inga found the picture so fast I also researched it and found the same info. I got to have a look at eBay to see it, very interesting.
      I also love the picture and it is a very rare one as there are not many of those around when Sean was a little child.
      I wonder why Robert is missing in action, maybe just busy with his book. We all have times when we are just to busy with other things for instance like me at present too, as am trying to catch up with my back log which accumulated of my adverse lifestyle in the past 18 month and still have ongoing conditions to cope with.
      Take care!.

        This is a great lead you have started Tina! To see that painting in the pic–who would think? I have two prints given as wedding presents to my great grandparents’ in 1880. I know they are not the originals but they are so very old I am afraid to remove them from the frames. One is called the Birthday Gift and the other is Old Tory. Both are of little girls. The painter is famous for paintings of children with dogs (Reading Lesson is another)–right now can’t think of his name!!! I love these types of pictures.

          Hi Kathleen;
          It just intrigued me to see Lili and Sean photoraphed infront of this picture and being on top of it such a rare find of little Sean and so cute.
          How interesting about your two pictures from your grandparents. I can understand why you would be afraid to have them reframed as one never knows what could happen to them in the process.
          Take care!
