Great pics. I can see that most of them were taken about the time Flynn was working on “Captain Blood”, but there is one at the very top left column which appears to be from a different period than the others, (Flynn has what appears to be a Union officer’s jacket draped over his shoulders.) Any one know for sure?
I found most interesting the one with Flynn, Damita and Curtiz.
Something that’s puzzled me is the fact that Curtiz and Damita were married yet I don’t believe I have seen it mentioned in any of the bios, (with the exception of the most recent ones, “Errol Flynn Slept Here” and “Errol and Olivia.”) Have I merely overlooked something?

The line above should read …yet I don’t believe I have ever seen it mentioned in any of the bios… (Sorry, I am not that computer literate and I could not figure out how to edit my omission once I posted it.).–A. R.

The picture on top left is from Virginia City. We have discussed the Damita-Curtiz marriage before and it was said that this was merely an urban myth – they never were married.

Plus I would say that number 3 and 4 counted from the top are not from Captain Blood either. Perfect Specimen?

The Damita/Curtiz marriage hasn’t been officially confirmed (as far as I know) so I would assume that is why it isn’t mentioned.
I spoke to Gerry Connolly about this a few years ago (Connolly was, and maybe still is, working on a biography of Damita) and I got the impression from him that it was true and that he had evidence of it being true.

Mr Fegerl said it was a myth and definitely not true…

          Hi Inga,

What drew Mr.Fegerl to the conclusion that it definitely wasn’t true?
I wish I could say more about Gerry Connolly but he was very cryptic, understandably so. As I say, he left me with the impression that it was true.

Hi Brian, he gave a few reasons but I must look for my notes to find them. But he definitely said it was nonsense.

Here is an item that I think will be found interesting. After the response to my question re: how was it that several Flynn biographers could miss the marriage of Damita and Curtiz.. I found this item on the website for the book, “Errol and Olivia”. The author of that tome had included the marriage as fact in his book and was then questioned by none other than Rudy Behlmer as to where he got his information and he answered, “Wikipedia and the IMDB.”
His response I believe was ‘just because it’s on the internet doesn’t make it true.” Knowing that there are some errors on the IMDB and because they do not list any reference sources, it is hard to ascertain where they obtained their info, and therefore its validity must be questioned.–A. Exactly what we discussed before. You should find the discussion in the blog archives.

A simple archive search might have proved successful. I would also have repeated the points for you. But it often seems to me that you do not bother to read the answers one gave you to the questions you asked. It was sometimes the case that you commented, and a blog member answered, but you did not seem to bother to read the answers or answer the questions that were asked to you in return. Sorry.

Sometimes subjects get revisited and nobody is expected to have read all the posts or discussions that have gone on before but it is not a bad idea and can be fun using the search feature to look up what is in the archives. We know that one snarky comment often deserves another, and its human to respond in kind but if you read the blog rules we don’t allow this sort of conflict to get out of hand – I think we are starting to go down the wrong road, and I reply here to Inga simply because she is the last make a remark. Most of the time, these types of comments are the result of a misinterpretation – I hope we can let this dust settle a little and chalk it up to the occasional bump in the road on an otherwise clear and smooth highway…

It was just that I felt: why am I replying to posts if nobody cares anyway.

I do appreciate your responses to my post. I believed in my post I was contributing. You must understand that I am amazed at how much knowledge about Flynn many of you have that I don’t.
For the record I did try the search engine, but using the phrase “Damita/Curtiz marriage” it returned a “no post found” response and after several different tries, I was at a lost as to how else to reword my search to find the the particular posts.
But I don’t understand you remark about not responding to questions put to me. Also I do thank anyone answering one of my questions when I see the post and when I have time to respond.–A. R.

                      Here is the thread: www.theerrolflynnblog.com…
I think a few comments are missing, but am not sure about this.
As for the reactions, there were a few comments, I think by Tina some time ago, and also by myself, where tried to answer one of your question or just reacted to something you wrote, without a further answer, but it really doesn’t matter. I apologise for any hurt feelings I caused.

Thank you, Inga. You have been most helpful.
Apparently we have just gone over one of those bumps on the highway David mentioned.
So as Errol might say, “Bung ho”! Here’s to less “bumpy” roads in the future!–A. R.
