Behind the Green Light

06 Jul

“You’ve done it, Newell, you’ve found a vaccine.”

Before Covid-19, there was Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.

Before Dr. Anthony Fauci, there was Dr. Errol, I mean Newell, Paige.

“In the 1937 movie Green Light, Hollywood heartthrob Errol Flynn plays a doctor investigating a devastating new ailment plaguing a remote town in Montana. The story of a heroic doctor infecting himself with the disease to find a cure is fictional, but it’s based in truth. In the early 1900s, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, a deadly tick-borne disease, was erupting. No one knew exactly what caused it or how to cure it.”

Also, one of the late Flynn Sage Lincoln Hurst’s* ALL TIME favorites as well… you are in excellent company!

    * Green Light, written by Lloyd C Douglas, who wrote “moralistic novels, while somewhat preachy by today’s standards, were highly popular in the 1930s, as were several films adapted from them (“Magnificent Obsession,” “White Banners”). Best known as the author of “The Robe.”

I had never heard of him but “Linc” (also a Biblical Scholar by training) had… having read ALL his books no less!

Dr. Blood and Tick Doc too. A man of many talents was Flynn. Twice a physician, or was it a surgeon , gosh dang it!

Tim, I got a chuckle from your comment because I remember when Errol said that about “I’m a surgeon, God #$%& it!”
In the “Movie Bloopers from the Golden Era” dvd. Except of course, you cleaned up the language!
