This really sad. They couldn’t even put some plants in the flower pots? I think this displacement and separation explains quite a lot about him and his later behavior.. I’ve never understood boarding schools, especially for the really young children. It just doesn’t make sense to me at all.

I agree, Paula. I’m sure this place was hell for Errol. I hope he was able to keep that creepy “kipper-footed” predator away.

What does it mean? Is that some slang? Kipper -footed ped?

‘Ped’ is for pedophile, Selene. I encourage those familiar with 20th Century Brit slang to weigh in on what Errol intended by ‘kipper-footed’. I believe I know, but will leave it’s definition to the Brexperts. Errol had a wonderful way with words.

I‘m anything but a Brexpert but according to this page www.peevish.co.uk/slang/k.htm… it means feet pointing outwards.

That could be it, Claudia, but, given that Errol was insulting a pedophile, I would not be surprised a bit if he was employing Webster’s third definition for kipper (“sprightly, gay, light-footed”) coupled with your definition – if the creep did indeed literally have splayed feet. This may have been a sort of snide slang expression back in Errol’s day and world, sort of like “light in his loafers” and “twinkle-toes” used to be in the USA.

Here’s something fun from a show titled “Kipper Feet”:

Oh ok. Yes he mentioned him in his autobiography, and I hope Errol was fully honest and that man never did anything to him.
