    Didn’t know of this book but DID one of the authors- the late Rick Dodd was a DEAR friend, via letter and small sharings, who NEVER mentioned it in keeping with his EXTRAORDINARILY humble nature.

    At one time the PREMIERE Flynn collector whose generous help and resources were available to authors back in the day (and even “civilians”, such as myself, as well).

    As to the particulars of this tome (and assume privately published):

    I thought I should share that, though a Flynn fan for many years, I too had no idea that Messrs Seaton and Dodd had written a book about our Errol until seeing David’s post above. I immediately sought out one of the two copies for sale on ebay and made the purchase. It is noted as a Proof Copy number 1 of 2. I am currently reading the book and will, if members are interested, provide further comment on it once I’ve finished.

    I wanted to also share that I had the great pleasure to meet Rick Dodd many years ago. In 2002 Rick was auctioning the larger part of his collection at an auction room in Swindon, UK. As (bad) luck would have it I had promised to take my father to an appointment with a back specialist that same afternoon so I was only able to go along to the auction rooms for a couple of hours in the morning to view and place some commission bids on articles that caught my eye. Sadly, none of my bids were successful but I did whilst viewing have the great pleasure of meeting with Rick and we spoke for a couple of minutes; I recall he was accompanied by his wife and daughter. He was indeed a most delightful fellow. I retain a copy of the auction catalogue and revisited it to see whether the book had appeared in it but it didn’t. I understand from the seller on ebay ( a shop in Ireland) it formed part of a collection that came from America but that was all that was known. A further much smaller collection of Rick’s Flynn related possessions, including a number of letters from Olivia de Havilland passed through the same auction house in late 2016, the book was again absent. I hope this is of some interest to the esteemed members of this wonderful group.[img]IMG_20201116_144824064[/img]

    I wanted to share with you that as a longtime Flynn fan, I too was unaware of Rick Dodd’s book. Alerted to its presence by this post I sought out the item on ebay – there were two copies – and duly purchased one of them. I shall be delighted to provide further information once I’ve finished reading it however I can tell you it is noted as proof copy 1 of 2. I did ask the seller what he could tell me about it; he said it came from a consignment of material purchased in the USA but sadly he knew nothing more.

    In addition to the above, I too met Mr Dodd, just the once in 2002 at an auction room in Swindon, UK where the larger part of his collection was being sold. As I walked around that morning, I bumped into Mr Dodd and we spoke for a couple of minutes, I recall he was accompanied by his wife and daughter on the day. He was a truly delightful man and I can only imagine the mixed feelings he must have had at seeing his collection go under the hammer. I dug out my copy of the catalogue to see whether his book appeared but it did not, nor did it appear at a subsequent auction by the same auctioneers in later 2016 when several more lots from Mr Dodd’s collection sold, including a number of letters he’d exchanged with Olivia de Havilland.

    So I share this as a memory of Rick, to add a little background with these images from the catalogue, and to assure all fellow members of the group that at least one copy of Rick’s book shall be preserved in the ownership of one of your number.
