    What a fun article, Tim, thank you! And as someone whose all-time favorite movie is Captain Blood, I certainly agree with the author’s conclusion that Captain Blood is one of the most joyful and watchable of all adventure movies of all time.

      The greatest, barb! It shall be Blood, forever.

      …Until, perhaps, the film is replicated with digital recreation of [img]Errol, Olivia, Basil, and all the rest. Imo, the only thing that could possibly improve it would be on-location filming and tactful use of new technology. (After seeing “The Irishman” on the big theater screen, I believe that, until possibly vast improvements in technology are made, Hollywood should steer clear of trying to replicate the beauty and magnificence of Errol and Olivia.)

        To me, tho, the fact that Captain Blood isn’t as lush as Robin Hood is part of its charm. Flynn of course is more confident as Robin Hood, as he had several movies under his belt by that time, but that’s also appropriate given the difference in the characters. When I introduce people to Flynn movies, I always start with Robin Hood, but for me, there’s a charm to Captain Blood that wouldn’t improve with better technology, etc. I read a few years ago that there was talk of a remake, with Captain Blood in space. The mind reels at the thought.

          I agree with you, barb. I’m not referring to a remake, per se. Rather, I’m talking about a possible technological upgrade with Errol and Olivia, in black and white, with the very same screenplay and supporting cast. I would not be against supplanting some of the sets, ships. and sea battles, exactly how they exist in the original – if that could be done faithfully, by faith!
