It would of worked, Errol only missed “Dr. No” by 3 years! I just watched “Mark Of Zorro” with Tyrone Power and always wondered why Errol wasn’t considered for this part (1 Year after “Robin Hood”). Found out 20th Century Fox DID want him, but Jack Warner said “No”, he wouldn’t loan him out ! Would like to see a Photo Shop image of Errol as Zorro!

Errol would have been a great James Bond and as Zorro. That is ashame seriously that Jack did not loan him out to 20th Century Fox to do Zorro!!

Alex Toth drew Errol as Zorro in every frame of his artwork on “Zorro”. As for James Bond, I believe Errol would have loved playing that role. But don’t forget, the most successful rip-off of Bond was “Our Man Flint” and its sequel “In Like Flint”. The character’s name? “Derek Flint”!! (aka “Errol Flynn”)

    Flynn, Errol Flynn.

… As well and as much as Fleming (and later Broccoli perhaps – the producer, not the vegetable) knew Errol, the character of Bond had to at some point incorporate some of Errol’s persona. I’m surprised they never had Bond skiing up onto the beach in a suit for a martini, as only Errol could – something Chris Blackwell could never forget. … Would love to have a photo of that!

Early on, Errol – ever the trailblazer – may have helped anticipate and perhaps pave the way somewhat for the British secret agent character with his radio portrayals in “British Agent” (replete with Russian political intrigue, exotic lover – and even Tchaikovsky!) and as Christopher Casanova, an Interpol agent in The Modern Adventures of Casanova. Knowing Flynn as well as he did, I firmly believe Fleming had to – either consciously or unconsciously – include part of his persona in Bond!

Here’s “British Agent” – with young Frances Farmer: A fun & fascinating listen – with brief extra segments on Senor Flynn’s time in the Spanish War, a tribute to Jean Harlow, who had just (mysteriously) died, et al.

Flynn looking a better Bond than even Connery!

      Dear Tim Fleming,

incidently or by sheer synchronicity, the final film of our annual film festival, the VIENNALE was a British work called “Locke”. While it is no secret agent flick (I`d rather call it a Tour- de force roadmovie), this one person- piece shows an individual under intense pressure and I think that we have withnessed the future James Bond right there! With that kind of intensity he may have the cat in the sack, I`m even willing bet a stirred not shaken Martini in 2018 on it. Any takers? whatculture.com…

Thank you, M, for the high honor of elevation to Her Majesty’s Secret Service! … And especially for not calling me Jaws, Oddjob, or Miss Moneypenny.

I’ll have to check out Hardy and his boys in “Locke”. Sounds like he might be a “lock” for the role!

        You in Austria? Very Kuhlen!!

As Lennon might say, Goodnight Vienna, shangheinz!!
