Dear Flynnstones,
the pic above is not a still from GOLDFINGER, but an image of dancer-actress Julie Newmar getting ready from the movie SERPENT OF THE NILE.
It stars amongst others Flynntimo William Lundigan and Rhonda Fleming. The Queen of Technicolor encountered Errol some year before on September 30, 1951 when she sang at NBC´s Colgate Comedy Hour, where our Hollywood hero made an appearance. Apparently they all met again at the set of Hollywood at Nile. The bare-chested man with mustache and crew cut (KIM!?) looking on in the shadow is supposed to be Flynn. Is or isn`t he? What in your opinion is the margin for error (Errorrol « The Errol Flynn Blog) here? Do we maybe have a new case of an unannounced, unallowed and undetected cameo by Flynn like in the The Lady from Shanghai (The Lord from Shanghai- Errol after all? « The Errol Flynn Blog)??
Anyways, Julie, who later became famous as Cat Woman in the colorful Batman TV series, is full of praise for Errol Flynn`s dancing skills. “(It`s) Something he`s never been given credit for. This person is not a dancer. But he was a natural…I have never seen such a natural dancer, singer. He is only known as an actor, his timing was out of this world, his instincts were better than dancer-dancers.”
THANK YOUR LUCKY STARS for sure showed that there was gold in them legs of the known legs` man.

I will agree that the man in question, in the shadows does bear a superficial resemblance to Errol Flynn. However “Serpent Of The Nile” was a 1953 Columbia ‘B Movie” produced by that studio’s minor producer of serials, sci-fi, and other low-budget potboilers, Sam Katzman, who used the expensive still-standing sets and costumes from the big budget epic “Salome” starring Stewart Granger and bombshell star Rita Hayworth. Flynn never made a film for Columbia studios, either big or small, so why would he be hanging around the set shirtless? My guess it was one of the crew or a cast member enjoying the seductive dance by the statuesque Julie Newmar.

Right Ralph, most likely it was a lookalike. Maybe even one of Errol‘s stuntmen, stand-ins of stoogies (www.theerrolflynnblog.com…) -we got to check the credits on that. The only possibility to spot an onlooking Flynn, would have been post-production of KIM at a studio stage nearby.

Me neither, Ralph. The original Cat Woman was (and is) beyond beautiful. No wonder that fella -Flynn or no Flynn- in the shade wears a rather desperate look on his face. Julie Newmar told press she met Errol at Cuba another time, when he did a movie there. Big Boodle!?

Errol Flynn did work at Columbia studios to film a half-hour TV episode of “The Goodyear Theater” entitled “The Golden Shanty” which telecast on November 9,1959 after his death. A sad farewell to a great star. It was his last work in front of motion picture cameras.
