      KK, the pic gives a date (June 1st 1938, probably at the premiere of Dawn Patrol) but no clue on Errol‘s chaperon. In the image above she is already out of the picture. The lady looks like Lili on an off day, matter of fact Tiger Lil must have taken the night off. I can only reckon that the girl was friendly with Olivia.

        You have provided a possible answer by the addition of a new “player” and moving a previous one (to the right) partially out… I’m thinking (with a slightly different hairstyle in the photo I attach) the woman in question is the wife of “Major Brand”.

          Oui, oui, could be, Karl! Unlike Sherlock Holmes who said the ear is most indicative, here the nose seems to point in the right direction. As far as the event goes, we know the pictures are almost all the time dated wrongly. Can‘t be the premiere of DP, unless the were showing the rushes. The EF Chronology is always a good resort for pinpointing a day in the life of Errol. Bravo Bernadette!

        The picture is Olivia at the Coronation Ball for King George VI on May 12, 1937. She went with David Niven and had supper at Errol’s home with Mrs. Lewis Milestone who Errol escorted.

          The Alamy.com… website displays Heinz’s original photo in its collection with the following caption:

          “1938, Film Title: DAWN PATROL, Director: EDMUND GOULDING, Studio: WARNER, Pictured: OLIVIA DeHAVILLAND, ERROL FLYNN, EDMUND GOULDING, MRS LEWIS MILESTONE, DAVID NIVEN.”

          Both of Heinz’s photos appear to me from the SAME event- take note of Errol’s complete attire.

            Karl,in thr book written by Robert Matzen Errol and Olivia Ego and Obsession in Golden Hollywood on pages 52 and 53 the exact pictures that are posted in this blog prove they were taken at the Coronation Ball at the Ambassador Hotel at 12:01 on May 12,1937.                 Good sleuthing Bernadette and do ditto Shang’s sentiments for both you and the ULTIMATE in such (time-line-an) reference works!

                Speaking of which, filming for the Dawn Patrol begins 10 & 11 August 1938, ends 18 September 1938, with a preview on 12 December 1938, (and from another source: opens nationally on 24 December 1938) and confirms your earlier date and information.
