Errol Flynn in Alaska and More!

01 Aug

Errol, and a group of four entertainers, spent over a month on a USO tour of Alaska and the Aleutian Islands, cheering up the troops stationed at the U.S. outposts there during World War II.

This map and time frame tries to pinpoint their destinations based on a wide variety of sources … from Army records to some soldiers personal photos (and even some of those documents were contradictory).

Enjoy!

Topper, these remote, bleak locations of American troops in Alaska’s distant Aleutian Islands were starved for any recreation. This would have been a welcome morale booster.

Definitely remote and very barren. The troops were extremely glad to see them, according to all of the letters they wrote home, that were available. I do not think Bob Hope or Jack Benny, or any other star made the trip to the Aleutians, before, especially during or after the war.
