Errol Flynn is working on The Perfect Specimen which began filming on May 15th and will run thru June and into mid-July. On Errol’s birthday, June 20th, he enters his two Rhodesian Ridgeback ‘lion dogs’ in the Pasadena Kennel Club, Summer Dog show at Busch Gardens. Jimmy McManus of Ruggles Kennels will handle the two dogs in the competition. Errol does not attend and the dogs did not win, but received a lot of interest. Flynn is very proud.
Enjoy …

Topper; There must be some legal rights reason why Turner Classic Movies never telecasts “The Perfect Specimen” (1937). I had to find a bootleg copy to see it.

That question I can not answer. You might want to contact TCM to find out. I did many years ago when I was looking for Murder at Monte Carlo…which they never showed. They were very cordial in helping. And my copy of Specimen is from Video Finders, on VHS. ..a long, long, time ago in a galaxy far away. Good luck.

Topper; Officially “Murder At Monte Carlo” is missing and on the top ten “Most Wanted” lost films of the BFI, the British Film Institute.

You are correct. In my communications with the BFI in July of 1988, they confirmed that they had no records of the film being available…but…we did discuss that there was a cable between Irving Asher in England and Jack Warner in Calif., late-Nov. 1934, that a copy of the film and some photos had been sent to WB in Hollywood. It is rumored that the film was …Monte Carlo. It has never been seen in the U.S.

Topper! It would make perfect sense for Warner Bros. Teddington studios in the UK to send a copy of the film to Warner Bros. Burbank for J.L. Warner to look over the talent in the film. As a result Errol Flynn and Patrick Knowles came to Hollywood. One never knows in that perhaps that copy might still turn up in the Warner vault?! In 1933, the Three Stooges made several feature films and short subject comedies at MGM with their straight man Ted Healy. In the 1980’s MGM released tour of the five shorts the boys made at the studio for TV and theatrical release. A fifth short “Hello Pop”, which was filmed in the two-strip Technicolor process was missing and presumed lost. Thirty plus years later, “Hello Pop” was discovered buried deep in the film vaults! All five of the shorts are available on DVD now!
