For Devoted Errol Flynn Fans & Researchers – So That Errol’s Great History in Miami, the Keys & Elsewhere in Florida is Never Forgotton. May It Be Remembered for InFlynnity.:
Commencing not long after his arrival in Hollywood, Errol began a lifelong series of trips to and thru Miami. He loved the sub-tropical environment, fishing in the Gulf Stream, the uniquely glamorous social life, diving and spearfishing, hiding from Jack Warner, and, evidently, (literally, though most likely metaphorically, too) wildly flying. Here is a representative sampling of “Flynn Over Miami” – “And All Around It”:

Here is the fabulous Nautilus, one of Errol’s not so secret hideaways in Miami:

Love, love the term InFlynnity! Enjoyed the newspaper articles. What was the movie Bloodline? Thanks for posting.

Thank you so much, Kathleen. Glad you like that!
I believe Bloodline eventually became known as Adventures of Captain Fabian, as well as by La Taverne de New Orleans, as pictured below:

Great photos of Errol & Lili in Miami. Catches two sides of their roller-coaster relationship, I believe – which appears to be possibly one goal of the photographer and article.

I need to research further, but I believe that may be the Everglades Hotel beyond the Sirocco, and possibly the famous courthouse.
The Sirocco went into the Fogal Boat Yard, on the Miami River. Decades later their art moderne headquarters was used in Miami Vice as Police Headquarters (or something like that.) Here she is (without Sonny Crocket, or Sonny Burnett, or Nash Bridges – or were they all the same person???)

Dear Shiver- me Tim,
you are a real athlete when it comes to track (down) and field (studies). Look what I found about that woodnymph statue when I searched for its maker. It supposedly was sold for $ 5000.- after being on display at Errol`s home in Jamaica. en.wikipedia.org… This very shining personality is featured also in my “Cuba libre” piece on this blog. Thanks for connecting the dots and tightening the noose on “Sepy”. Did you come across any material in Miami on Freddie McEvoy`s last marriage with Errol standing by as best man?
Tim

Surprisingly, shangheinz, I didn’t come across any contemporaneous news reports confirming Errol’s attendance as Best Man at Freddie’s wedding in Miami. Thanks for reminding me! I need to search further. (I have read a good number of press reports leading up to his engagement with Claude Stephanie – including multiple ones by Dorothy Kilgallon. So, though.I haven’t seen one, its likely Dorothy Kilgannon wrote a contemporaneous account.)
McEvoy’s history in Miami – perhaps most particularly his reason for first residing there – is a VERY intriquing topic! Perhaps we can explore that further on another tab. He was a world-class knave, who got Errol into a lot of trouble.
Here’s a rare photo of Freddie & Claude Stephanie, with whom he later died so tragically:

dear shangheinz: In further response to your outstanding observation of my omission concerning Errol’s long-reported attendance at Peerless Freddie’s wedding in Miami, circa 1949, I have now conducted rather extensive research of all online Florida marriage records and newspaper reports, as well as genealogy databases. Here’s what I have found, not found, and suspect:
1) I can find no contemporaneous news reports of any wedding involving either Freddie or Claude Stephanie in Florida, only advance accounts of a pending wedding – including multiple accounts by Dorothy Kilgallon and other such celebrity columnists.
2) Freddie was VERY well know in Miami & Palm Beach – where he lived at the Colony Hotel (featured in an earlier tab) with oil heiress Bea Cartwright – so it’s odd that no news accounts are available in the PB Post or Miami papers, especially with Flynn in.
3) I did find a second, earlier, pre-nuptial report by Cholly Knickerbocker, however – one which states he received an invitation (from Johnny Meyer) to attend Freddie’s wedding – in the Bahamas, Nassau to be exact. So, what I suspect at this point is that the wedding may have actually taken place in the Bahamas, not Miami, as always reported, except in this one inside report by Cholly Knockerbocker (Igor Cassini):

Dear Shiver me Tim,
you hit the nail right on the coffin. Mac Freddie liked to keep his undertakings lush and hush hush. Nassau was a very frequented venue of these two Australian lads. Keep searching, sniffeling and snorkeling for the facts on that topic.

Amazing you say that, shangheinz! Resesearching through all the various immigration, marriage, and historic newspaper databases, I came across dozens of official records documenting some of Mysterious Mister McEvoy’s many travels into the U.S. from primarily Europe. In these he uses multiple, often apparently conflicting, citizenships, residencies, birthplaces, heritages, and occupations. All very suspicious, of course, and probably supportive of long-standing claims that Freddie was dodging the law. Most likely, he was a smuggler, but there may have been other aspects to his activities – ones that brought heat on Errol. Indeed, I found one record strongly indicating that the authorities were on his heels.
If I recall correctly, Charles Bennett claimed that McEvoy was an Axis operative, and that’s who J. Effin Hoover and other Feds were really after, not Errol, except to the extent that Errol was associated with McEvoy. Bennett even revealed that Higham the Horrible confessed to him knowledge of that fact subsequent to his writing his scandalously libelous “biography” of Flynn.

Tear Dim,
Highham is the highpriest of mixing up fact and feces. Whenever he had a lead, he had to chunk it up to a horror story. And Freddie McEvoy certainly was no straight arrow either. Where money was to be made he emerged, as long as it was illegal. In my book Errol traded loyalty for laughs. Mustn`t the FBI files of that era be open to the public by now?

I know Tony Thomas’s excellent research & writing involved review of most, if not all, of the applicable FBI files.I imagine there may be some OSS and other military intelligence records that escaped release, however. Here’s the informed view of (noted screenwriter) Charles Bennett, part of the old Hollywood British Colony, who knew both Errol & McEvoy, and was himself an intelligence agent during the war.

Dear Timtim,
my top hat is off to you for finding that most accurate account on Errol`s best man. He should have been nicknamed Rattlesnake Freddie.

The quest to document and visit Errol’s favorite haunts in Florida took me to two locations on New Years Day. First and foremost, Hialeah Park – “The World’s Most Beautiful Racetrack”. Secondly, to nearby Miami Springs, where Errol dined on the estate of aviation titan, Glenn Curtiss. Curtiss died in 1930, but had an extremely surprising and fascinating connection to Errol, through their mutual friend, Howard Hill. Curtiss and Errol were both instrumental in making Hill a legend, as the greatest archer of all time.
The Hialeah Park Racetrack (also built by Glenn Curtiss) has reopened after many years of no racing. In Errol’s day, it was one of the most elegant and exciting places on Earth.

Maria found this awesome autographed racing program from the West Flagler Kennel Club, apparently on the occasion of the Errol Flynn Cup Race, April 1, 1938! (No foolin’!)
This is now the Magic City Casino.
Thank you, Maria! So great!
