The Sea-Hawk by Rafael Sabatini

06 May

Sea-Hawk2Errol Flynn’s “The Sea-Hawk” is a great film. But it isn’t really based on the novel by Rafael Sabatini. It only uses its famous title. I made this for fun, using actual dialogue from Sabatini’s book.

The 1924 First National silent version of The Sea Hawk is very close to the novel.

The Sabatini novel is fantastic and anyone who hasn’t read it is in for a real treat.

Sabatini was such a great talent, wasn’t he, Ralph! I was recently reading an in-depth account of his life, career & legacy, and the author wrote how important Errol was to hs his reputation & popularity. For me, his name has such an exotic, Romantic Era literary feel. But, as you know, though born a couple of decades earlier, he continued to live & write, in English and in England, contemporaneously with Errol’s years in Hollywood & Europe. … I wonder if Errol & RS ever met?!

VERY cool concept, zacal! Wouldn’t it be neat to see Flynn in an animated version or two of Sabatini’s original Sea Hawk and other “chronicles” of Captain Blood! In the days of my youth – maybe (hopefull) still perhaps – that would have made a GREAT weekly show: The Adventures of Captain Blood. Warners, or someone, should jump on that!
