Hi Errol Flynn Blogsters,
I am a teacher at Albuera Street Primary and we are having our centenary celebrations of the Albuera State School later on this year. I’ve read on your blog about Albuera and Errol’s attendance there. Some of the corrections have made it much more accurate.
I don’t know what you have about his time at Albuera but would really appreciate anything you have to share. I am intending to have some of my students (Grade 5/6) research him and put on a bit of a display (of the things primary school-aged kids can read about and see!). Again, anything that you could point me to, or indeed if you are Hobartian-based, to come and have a chat with us about, would be brilliant.
I was looking at the sparse, but obviously accurate, enrolment records of Errol Leslie Flynn and it shows the terms he was at the school, the days attended and the line written about him when he left: “Gone to Sydney”. I don’t know if it was meant as a “Thank goodness he is gone!”

No. I don’t think “Gone to Sydney” meant “Thank goodness he is gone.” He was a naughty boy but must be an adorable one. “Gone to Sydney” is a statement of the fact that he was gone to Sydney. Glad to know future generation of kids in the school Errol attended will recognize him. Thank you for your effort.

Probably screening and discussing the Adventure of Robin Hood would be the best way to introduce Flynn to elementary school kids.
Other than that:
–His sportsmanship such as he was champion of tennis.
–His love for reading and writing.
–His love for the sea and his ability to navigate the sea
–He did all his stunts, and his fencing coach praised him as a remarkable actor with a memory of an elephant.
–He was 1930s and 1940s superstar, loved by millions, even now. One thing I did learn–his fans are die-hard fans. This must say more about him than anything else. When people love him, they indeed love him.

Perhaps it would be cool to also teach the kids how very significant Errol’s Dad, Professor Flynn, was in Tasmania, and how Errol was very enthusiastically in some of his Dad’s scientific explorations & studies. Mentioning some of his famous discoveries would be great. And that the famous WB cartoon was inspired by Errol. ,The kids might really like that, too!

Also, not forget Errol was an art collector. He really loved fine art. He also loved his animals.
