Inga will create the category, and if you have something to post that is not directly about Flynn there will be a place for it. This will give us a chance to talk about Flynn related subjects in one place where no category already exists.

Very good idea!
It also would be nice if the posted subjects could be posted under the established titles, which are listed below the authors on the right side. It seems to me everything is now just posted on the Main Page and information about certain subjects may get lost as time goes by or at least hard to find.

If nobody minds I would start moving them to the respective categories to clean up the front page a bit.

By default anything posted under any category will appear on the front page with the category it was published under. On this blog, due to issues with the content transfer from the old host that eliminated their blogging platform, we ended up with a Main Page category, as well as a traditional front page. To eliminate the Main Page category would get rid of much of our older content. So anything published to the Main Page category also shows on the front page. It’s kind of funky. There is a category excluder plugin that is supposed to limit publication to specified categories as long as Main Page is unchecked before you publish. When a new category is created, we exclude it from the front page. It won’t appear there as long as Main Page is unchecked. So it’s up to Authors to specify where their posts will be published. Generally, people want everybody to see new posts on the front page so they can be easily read. Posts can be set to more than one category at the same time. For instance, a post about Flynn’s family can be seen on the Main Page, and also published to the Family & Friends category. It’s a bit confusing, what is Main Page, what is Front Page? We are using Main Page as our front page as well as a category itself because of aforementioned issue with the blog transfer.

I did create the new category (Flynn-related) but it does not show on the front page at the moment. I hope it will turn up sooner or later. When you make posts you should be able to add them to this category anyway.

I did a trial post on “Flynn-related” but it does not come up on “Recent Posts” nor in “Recent Comments”.
A glitch I would say?

Tina, it took some time figure out how to allow the title of a Main Page excluded post to appear in the Recent Posts widget. Replacing the widget and using one of its ehanced functions did the trick!

Should The Errol Flynn Blog be about Errol Flynn?
Should any stuffs unrelated to Errol Flynn be in a blog with a different name?
I really think this should be the case.
Well-defined purpose of a blog is essential.
I believe myself and probably everybody else come to the Errol Flynn Blog to explore and discuss about Errol only.

May, the new category is for posts thinly related to Flynn not unrelated to Flynn. This would include posts that mention Errol but include a larger subject, in which he may have a more distant relationship. For example, a post about how many of Flynn’s costars vacationed in a certain hotel, or area, such as the Bahamas, that includes a lot of details about who was there and what it was like at the time Errol and his contemporaries were there. Such a post would not necessarily contain only information about Errol, but perhaps about Olivia DeHavilland, and others, and what some of their experiences were. We certainly are all about Flynn here, and want to keep the focus on him.but it would not be out of line to describe the world he lived in among other stars, or important figures of his time.

“Thinly-related to Errol” is fine. Anyway, it all depends on the responses. If there is very little or no response, it means no one is interested in the subject. Then it will die off.
I think such as Errol Flynn Filmhouse is more than thinly-related.

And you are quite right Errol’s Filmhouse is not a thinly-related subject.

If you delete your post, all subsequent comments about it will also be gone. Something to be aware of for everybody if there are interesting comments, photos, veideos, etc., under the post you are thinking of deleting.

Dear David and dearest Inga,
I totally agree with errolfan1130. A topic may be as thinly (related) as Errol`s moustache, but it`s Errol in center always. Maybe we should limit the blogs per day- “One blog a day keeps the netdoktor away.” Some blogs may go uncommented because of the sheer abundance of entries these days. Nevertheless the blog is booming and this is a good thing, right?

I agree, Errol is at the center of almost all posts. In the case where he is peripheral to the topic in some way, you could still bring the topic up. We can also look at the categories as we get ready to publish to determine if the post can also be published elsewhere. You can publish a posting to more than one category which would help fill out the rest of the blog. But in the end, it’s up to the Author to decide where to publish, or not. :-)
There is no limit on number of postings, or number of comments. Note, if your post or comment has more than three links in it, the blog software MAY automatically mark it for moderation.
