Officially, the much talked about and anticipated film ‘The Last Of Robin Hood’ with Kevin Kline and Susan Sarandon opens nationwide in the USA on Friday August 29, 2014. It will be interesting to see what the Chicago Sun-Times film critic Richard Roeper has to say about the film. He succeeded the late Roger Ebert. Roeper has little interest in old Hollywood legends and previously panned the film ‘Hollywoodland’ which was about the strange death of George Reves, the actor who starred on the 1950’s television series ‘The Adventures Of Superman’. In the end I would say he was correct about that one but for different reasons, it was boring. See you at the movies. Ralph

Thanks for the reminder. Ralph. I’m hoping to see it this weekend, but haven’t yet found where it’s playing down my way. The Village Voice’s chief film critic has just weighed in with the review linked below, taking it rather easy on Flynn & Bev, but, in my estimation, not very extensively or substantly evaluating the artistic or tecnical qualities of the film. I sure hope the film helps to inspire interest and investigation into Flynn’s greatest years, when he was the greatest thing Hollywood had ever seen.

My guess is that good reviews or not, this independent film, ‘Last Of Robin Hood’, will probably go to DVD by Xmas. Then I can send a copy to a good friend in Europe. Ralph

I believe you’re right, Ralph. It’s to cable and dvd very soon. In fact, though I’m in a major SoFlo area, It’s very hard to find a theater showing the film. Despite including the all-star line-up of Kline, Sarandon and Fanning. All signs are that, aside from excellent acting, it has too much of a low budget look & feel holding it back. Flynn himself, of course, never had a low budget look or feel, even when he was dead broke in PNG, or on the rocks in LA.
Sounds like the final theatrical release may have had some previously-cut scenes added to give it a ‘R’ rating?

Despite the great leading cast, many are not greatly impressed. Still, I’m hoping they’re wrong and the film itself does great things for the legacy of Errol, who did things in his life no one will ever approach.

Thanks for posting the news about this! I’m looking forward to seeing this film, and I do hope it’s better than that “Hollywoodland” film you mentioned. Being a George Reeves fan myself, needless to say I found that film to be quite disappointing; I’m not surprised Roeper panned it. Well, hopefully “The Last of Robin Hood” will be better received.

Here’s the “opulent” “magical palace” where Errol stayed when visiting Phoenix. One confirmed siting has him there with Nora, circa “47 or 48”, for example. This was said to be the first luxury resort in Arizona.
