Hi Tim,does it have something to do with Errol being best man at that couple’s wedding during the Dodge City movie premiere (this year being the 75th anniversary),and The Carpenters song being one of the most popular wedding songs?

Not the CarpenterS – it is the Carpenter and Brian was his name!
The Life and Career – Errol Flynn – by Thomas McNaulty
    Page 84
During the parade Flynn was astride a black and Silver saddle, specially commissioned by the Santa Fe Railroad for $25,000.
At Wright Park, a wedding ceremony was planned as Bryan Carpenter, age 23, and Gladys Bell, age 20, were united in holy matrimony with Errol Flynn as the best man and Ann Sheridan as maid of honor.
And naturally all the other stars of the Dodge City movie premier were there too.

Yes, Lollie & Tina!! As they might have said back in the heydays of Boot Hill, you guys are just two darn tootin’ good!!

Inspired by one of David’s posts (on Favourite Candids) yesterday, with details from Tom McNulty’s master-bio, Errol was Best Man at the wedding of Bryan Carpenter & Gladys Bell, who, 75 years ago this year, became “the Carpenters”. Warner’s “Oomph Girl” was the Maid of Honor. Though Errol & Annie’s co-star, Olivia didn’t take the legendary, star-studded junket to Dodge.

Wright Park, on the Arkansas. was the scene of this wonderful wedding. Can you imagine having Errol Flynn & Annie Sheridan as your Best Man & Maid of Honor!?! How Cool!!!!

      Thanks Tim!
Not the Carpenters but Mary Hopkins sang this most fitting song to this Dodge City story:

Those were the days my friend
      We thought they’d never end
We’d sing and dance forever and a day
We’d live the life we choose
      We’d fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way.
      La la la la…
Those were the days, oh yes those were the days

Then the busy years went rushing by us
We lost our starry notions on the way
If by chance I’d see you in the tavern
We’d smile at one another and we’d say

Those were the days my friend
      We thought they’d never end

One of the greatest songs ever recorded, Tina! One of my all-time favorites.

… I wonder what ever happened to the Carpenters – Bryan & Gladys, that is. That would make a great ‘Whatever Happened To?” story.
