Tonight is the opening game of the new NFL season. One of the most popular (and brutal) sports in the entire world. Each team tries to choose a name and logo that inspires thoughts of action and heroism. And two of them just might have been inspired by the renowned swashbuckler Errol Flynn.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ original logo seemed clearly to be patterned after Errol, complete with a twinkle in his eye.
And what could be a more exciting name than the one chosen by the current World Champions, the Seahawks?
The point is Errol Flynn continues to inspire images of excitement. When in doubt, go with the champion. Go Flynn!!!

The original Tampa Bay Buccaneers logo was most definitely inspired by Errol, along with parts John Lafitte and D’Artagnon, the Musketeer once played by Flynn.

Lamar Sparkman, a great Tampanian artist, designed it, specifically saying “it was an Errol Flynn kind of thing.” Great job, Lamar!

I’m actually working on something very big right for Errol now that, if all goes right, will involve that logo, zacal!! I’ll keep you posted. Coincidently, it also involves Errol’s Sea Hawk!!! I’ll know more relatively soon.
As one of Errol’s favorites once said: “Nothing’s more powerful than an idea whose time has come”.

Sounds incredible, Tim. I can’t wait to see what it is. Best of luck. Btw, it’s also been said that one of Errol’s co-stars, Randolph Scott, was the inspiration for another famous NFL logo.

Great Scott, zacal! I never knew that! I always thought tha was based on Raoul Walsh – one of Errol’s most favored Raiders – who even raided a Tinsel Town funeral home for the body of Barrymore it’s been said. (Before his affiliation with the Lions, of course.)
