This is a wild guess, but it might be footage of the production of William Tell. That girl with the pop gun sure looks like Sophia Loren (who screen tested for the film), and the fellow in the knit cap looks like Jack Cardiff, who directed it.
Hi, Russ! These are home movies of Jack Cardiff! There are various clips. You correctly identified Sophia Loren a good friend of Cardiffs, and Cardiff himself. Can anybody identify who else appears in these clips?
Hi guys: I'm convinced that the very first clip of a scruffy-looking man with his hair awry (what's left of it) is Bogie in African Queen! In real life he was almoat bald by then. That shirt and kerchief are identical to ones he wore in the movie. I thought the man following him who's sweating and mopping his brow was John Huston, but on closer inspection I can't be sure. Why Bogie and African Queen is mixed in with the Cardiff home movies God only knows. Only home movies I've ever been involved in were my plethora of ex-wives waving goodbye with briefcases of money!!!!!!!!!!!! Steve
Hallo, Steve! Correct! That's Bogie, all right! Cardiff was the DP on African Queen. The man mopping his face I think might also be Cardiff but it is hard to tell. Did you spot Errol with Jack Benny in Korea? I am not sure what movie Sophia Loren is shown working on – any ideas? So you keep your money in suitcases, eh? Hmmm, with the way the country's financial situation is – maybe this isn't such a bad idea!
