Hi- I found an old post from the blog from 2009 regarding the HUGE joke that Errol played on Anthony Quinn so I am now re-reading Anthony’s book “One Man Tango”. This is a fantastic read as I knew nothing about Anthony Quinn’s life (well except that he seemed to have lots of children) and I did not know how much he cared about Errol. The photo is (apparently) from John Barrymore’s funeral.

What a Great photo, Maria! Thank you.

Really catches how men often do pensively congregate, reflect and mourn after the death of a friend.

I know Tim- they both look incredibly sad. I have just finished the part in the book where Quinn plays Barrymore onstage and thus is introduced to his “crowd” (W.C Fields etc.) when Barrymore arrives at his dressing room. Hilarious tales ensue!

Wow, what a GREAT photo. I didn’t read “One Man Tango” and wasn’t aware of Mr. Quinn’s affection for Errol. I only saw Mr. Quinn once; at the premiere of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “Last Action Hero” in Westwood. Mr. Quinn had a small role in it and was attending with his son, Francesco Quinn.(who died WAY too young) At the time, I was thinking how close we are to the Golden Age of Hollywood because I’d read the book on the romance of Clark Gable and Carole Lombard. The story goes that on the night their romance began, Miss Lombard was actually on a date with Anthony Quinn!! Regardless, that photo is absolutely fantastic, thank you.

I think I am almost at that part in the book where Quinn meets Carole Lombard. I think she was already involved with Gable and was just dying to get out -but could not with him as he was still married. I think Quinn stood her up the first time because he had nothing decent to wear!
There is an older post on this blog that quoted the part in the book that refers to the joke that Errol played on him. I think you may find it if you just do a search on this blog using Anthony Quinn’s name.
      Enjoy!
