Dear fellow Flynn fans,

Woodsie made the front page of Bild Zeitung, the biggest tabloid newspaper of Germany up to today on the 25th of may in 1960. The text reads as follows:

“Beverly Aadland (17) the former girlfriend of the late Hollywood star Errol Flynn, is not allowed to drink alcohol any more. The decision was taken via a US Court, who gave custody of the alcohol bloated Beverly to a priest`s family and barred her from singing in nightclubs. The girl had been arrested for her loose way of life.”

Ghostship Zaca II

Dear fellow Flynn fans,

while last time turned out to be an UFO sighting www.theerrolflynnblog.com…, this looks more like the rail deal.

Errol rented out his beloved yacht amongst others to Rita Hayworth and her pauper prince Aly
Khan, Mary Pickford and Orson Welles.

Check out the schooner at the 0:47 mark in the trailer of Roger Vadim`s frenetic flic “And God created woman”- do we have a Zaca Vu here?

Here is the whole film:

Case of the curious blog 4

Dear fellow Flynn fans,

first of all I salute you to a New Errol Year with my waltzing waltzling ways: www.youtube.com…

At the 4 minute mark there´s is a terrific overview on Dürnstein Castle- remember?: www.theerrolflynnblog.com…

Unfortunately our Hollywood hero never made it down the blue Danube River to Vienna, hometown of his friend Doc I- Spy Erben and Will Tell loving lady Waltraut Haas.

Like in the old saying “Life is what happens, when you are busy making other plans”, he probably looked into making some movies:

The Niven Bush novel “The Actor” pitched to him by Henry Ginsberg

“The Ninth Man” written and scheduled also to be directed by Milton Krims

“Anthony Adverse”, alongside Fredric March and near to Lady Livvie

plus…drumrolls please: “The Greatest Love/Europa `51 with Ingrid Bergman and director Roberto Rossellini

None of the above made the swashbuckler`s cut for various reasons.

Some saw the limelights and may well pop up on the blog in future “In should`ve been Flynn”- features.

Dear fellow Flynn fans,

here is another one that got away- a Flynntastic project anyway: www.theerrolflynnblog.com…
It took almost twenty years after Errol`s untimely death to see the screen lights.
A full review about this all star cast potential Flynn vehicle resides here: www.nytimes.com…
If your computer is a trooper you can watch the movie here for free: putlocker.is/hdvideo/hdstream.php?movie=March… or Die (1977)

In should`ve been Flynn 6

18 Dec

Dear fellow Flynn fans,

early on Errol and Gary Cooper were the go- to- guys for any given heartthrob history film in the traumfabrik. Proposed roles went back and forth. Marco Polo was one those announced future Fynn flicks.
I can easily picture our Hollywood hero galopping down Silk Street, ahm Road all the way to Kublai Khan’s court bringing back to the Western hemisphere spaghetti and paper money.
See for yourselves this magical travelogue movie here: www.youtube.com…

In 1953 both cavs bought the same Mercedes model in Germany within a few months’ time and then would have the same famous diva as co- pilot. Dolce Vita Anita would purchase a Benz Coupe’ later herself and have Freddie McEvoy playboy friend Gianni Agnelli riding shotgun.
While Coop regrouped with High Noon in the Fifties, Flynn declined first before finishing strong with “The sun also rises” and “Roots of heaven”. An invisible bond linked them in death as in life, since these two fine leading men died within a short period of time.

Super Flynn Fan Stan Lee

Dear fellow Flynn fans,

it is well documented, because Marvel-ous Stan Lee never made no fuss about it, that Errol Flynn was his childhood hero. The pic above shows that our Hollywood hero also was his inspiration for another of his comic book heroes. Add Asiatic facial features, Klingon ears as well as wings on heels to it and voilà “Namor” appears. That name has the same number of letters as Errol plus contains or should we say implicates some portion of “Amor”. A little bit of Amor is in every man, but since…

By the way, a further reference to Flynn, but no relation to its main character can be found in this year`s Marvel movie “Ant Man”.

In should`ve been Flynn 5

06 Dec

Dear fellow Flynn fans,

a whale of a film hit our shores this week and in should`ve been Flynn long ago.
Originally released as “The Sea Beast” starring Errol`s idol John Barrymore in 1926, our Hollywood hero was lined up to do the remake.
As with “Don Juan” or “The master of Ballantrae”, Flynn was all in when it came to acting Barrymoresque.
But Errol didn´t get to do this prequel to “Moby Dick”, nor the even more fitting “Sea Wolf”, a Warner Bros product directed by Michael Curtiz, which had written EF all over it.
Due to Curtiz` caprices or Errol`s Flynnanigans `tis was not to be.
The silent flic though has stood the test of tides and can be viewed here: www.dailymotion.com…
