05 Dec

question-mark-face-256x256

Don Flynn went out and hung out with an impressive number of Four Letter Beauties. One in particular – though very, very sexy – unquestionably had the lowest IQ. Which one on the list below do you think it was?*

Alma
Gita
Hedy
Jane
Jean
Joan
Lana
Lili
Liza
Lucy
Lupe
Mary
Mona
Nora
Rita
Ting

During the mid-40s, they were seen riding on the Sunset Strip in Errol’s convertible. There were visits to an art gallery near the corner of Sunset & Alta Loma. ____ would dress VERY provocatively, raising spirits and commotion. One of Errol’s closest friends was usually involved and developed quite an unrequited crush on ____.

Decades later, Van Halen enjoyed that part of town, too.

*Most of Errol’s favorites were extremely bright, making it much more difficult if not impossible to identify the one with the highest IQ.

Added today, Sunday, November 27.

Photos I took this afternoon on Calle Ocho in Little Havana, Miami, epicenter of celebrations over the death of Comrade Castro. Up 95 some, Cuban-American Kiki Alonso was soon taking out Castro-lover, Komrade K.

Errol’s old digs. Near the Errol Flynn Reserve Playground, too!

Anyone for tennis? Errol flynns former residence. Circa1885 sandstone/weatherboard mansion. 295m over three levels including 11 rooms and sunroom.

Once home to Hobart’s most famous export Errol Flynn, this gracious 1885 house is brimming with charm and intrigue.

The sheltered backyard incorporates a tree house, believed to be constructed from the remains of an old shed burnt to the ground by a young Errol (whose father was a university lecturer in the early part of last century).

Located across the road from the Domain Tennis Centre, this substantial dual-access residence offers a commanding city and Mt Wellington outlook.

The three-level mansion designed by prominent architect Henry Hunter has many outstanding features including the original front door lock and doorbell knob. Other fine features include a wide verandah (which overlooks the meticulously maintained Tennis Centre), an imposing bay window, lofty ceilings, four-panel doors and romantic fireplaces.

Magnificent proportions create a sense of grandeur. Long sash windows mix with original timber floorboards in the family living room, which opens to the spacious eat-in kitchen. The beautiful mountain and city outlook creates an outstanding backdrop for family and guests in the sun-drenched kitchen and adjoining sunroom.
The formal dining room brings together neutral carpeting and a coal-grate fireplace, which is flanked by bookshelves.

Possibly the most impressive room is the formal sitting room with striking bay window and fireplace with fluted surrounds.Seven bedrooms and three bathrooms are scattered across the multi-level home, ideal for an expanding family or a couple who wish to accommodate overnight guests. The four sunny upstairs bedrooms are particularly appealing, with their charming arched windows, pretty views and abundance of natural light.

The lower level opens to the backyard, which in turn connects to Lillie St (providing convenient vehicular access).
Other noteworthy features include 2x reverse-cycle heat pumps, off peak heating and a security alarm system.

* Designed by Henry Hunter
* Stunning Views

A fun and very informative circa 1990’s interview of Olivia from Saratoga, including some very humorous references to “touching bases” (and not touching bases) with Errol. (At ~ 12:00 and briefly at very end of interview.)

Flying Horses

06 Nov

As long as we’re horsing around …

Who in the orbit of Errolworld was the first to fly a horse to a thoroughbred race?

He or she was:

1) A singer

2) A movie actor

3) A radio broadcaster

4) A horse breeder and trainer

5) Owner of a famous home and property

6) The flying horse won, paying $38 on a $2 bet, at a track Seabiscuit famously raced at, and the only track in the U.S. permitted to stay ooen during WW II.

7) Along on the (Flying Tiger) flight came a filly as company

The Great Race

06 Nov

Arrogate v. California Chrome. Names that would have worked well in Errol’s own stable.

It was a great day at the races today at Hollywood’s hometown horsetrack, Santa Anita, one of Errol’s favorite haunts, where he often played the ponies, and occasionally raced some of his own.

www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/destinations/northamerica/usa/8495591/Horse-racing-in-America-The-Hollywood-glamour-of-Santa-Anita-Park.html…

“America’s biggest race may be the Kentucky Derby, but Santa Anita – or ‘Hollywood’s Racetrack’ – in California wins in the glamour stakes.”

“Since Santa Anita Park opened back in 1934, the horse race track has been featured in numerous films, including A Star is Born (1954), Bob Hope’s The Lemon Drop Kid, the Marx Brothers film A Day At The Races and National Lampoon’s Vacation to name just a few.”
