I saw a “live” Metropolits Opera of Roberto Devereaux in a Cinemax theater recently (Donizetti’s tragic opera, not the actual English Earl.) Fascinating, for me mostly to see how the opera differed from Elizabeth and Essex. Viewing it really confirms how uniquely great Errol was. Essex in this production pales in comparison to Flynn. (Perhaps a slap from Bette D. would have put some more zest in his performance.

A very popular LA restaurant & dance hall in Chinatown’s Ferguson Alley, where Errol celebrated selling “The White Rajah” to Warner Brothers. Lily and friends were there to enjoy an 11-course feast including place cards of specially hand-carved ivory.
