“ILLEGAL PASSAGE”

“ERROL FLYNN NAMES PALS IN HIS ORIGINAL PLAY WRITTEN FOR FILM”

Errol Flynn has drawn from his own private circle of cronies for many of the characters of his new original screen play entitled Illegal Passage, intimates of the Warner star have disclosed.

One, for example, is named “Big” Thompson. He is a former Texas cowboy, rough and tough, but with a heart as big as his frame. He’s the principle character’s best friend. Another of Flynn’s closest friend’s is Guinn (Big Boy) Williams, former Texas cowhand turned motion picture actor. And the description fits like a glove.

Another character bears the name of Bud Ernest. Friends pointed out that Flynn’s flying companion and his close friend for many years is Bud Ernst, former stunt flyer and now a radio promotion executive.

Several other characters of the story – the nature of which is being kept a close secret – bear striking resemblance to other members of Flynn’s intimate circle. There is even a comic, friends say, by the name of John Byer, who might be John Meyer, Flynn’s demon promoter pal.

Flynn’s story is now being read by Warners.

Little Christmas – 1947

28 Dec

In the News, Seventy Years Ago – Reported by Harrison Carrol

“I got a kick out of Nora Flynn’s Christmas gift to Errol – slippers and a robe. Yes, sir, it looks as if the screen’s Don Juan is getting to be quite a family man.”

“The Flynn’s home is practically in chaos. They gave Deidre a bicycle. Since they live on a hilltop, she can’t take it outside. So she is tearing all over the house to the peril of furniture and human beings.”

Looking for Lakshmi

23 Dec

What became of Lakshmi?

She was a wealthy, upper-class,
Balinese beauty, with brown skin and enormous mocha eyes. Her mother was a princess from Sumatra. Sean wanted to marry her, but her parents wouldn’t allow it.

If Sean had married Lakshmi, he would have likely lived much longer.

So, whatever happened to Lakshmi?

books.google.com…

She was named after the elegantly-gorgeous Hindu Mother-Goddess, Lakshmi, bestower of fortune, beauty, and fertility.

Trunyon Bali Aga

21 Dec

“I first heard about Trunyan in the 1970s when I was a Time correspondent in Saigon. According to local lore, the village was “discovered” by war photographer Sean Flynn, whose swashbuckling reputation equaled that of his Hollywood father, Errol. Flynn heard rumors of a mysterious people, unwelcoming of outsiders, residing in the shadow of an active volcano on the far side of Lake Batur, a water filled caldera created by a volcanic eruption 25,000 years ago. What he found after crossing the lake was a settlement of primitive Bali Aga who called themselves ‘the original Balinese’.”

Quiz

02 Dec

The photo below was taken at a location where one of Errol’s relatives had a prominent connection. In fact, a geological feature there is named after one of Errol’s relatives.

Where is this location? Who was the relative? What feature is named after Errol’s relative, and why??

Clues:
1. It is enormously expensive to visit.
2. Very few people have ever been there.
3. It is a site of rare and spectacular beauty.
4. It’s the most remote location on Earth named after a relative of Errol’s.

Pirate Party on Catalina Isle! First Appearance!

30 Aug

All Flynn followers are familiar with the brief appearance of Errol and Lily in Pirate Party on Catalina Island, but there was always a little confusion about when this quiet little short subject appeared. To help quell any more questions, here is a clip from the Los Angeles Times newspaper of Feb. 12, 1936, page 11.

It premiered with the Charlie Chaplin film Modern Times.

Enjoy,
