Hi,

It may be of interest to your readers that a complete set of 35mm prints (including previously lost episodes) of The Errol Flynn Theatre have been discovered. Details here:

Unfortunately, one of those involved with the discovery has commented that they are unlikely to see release as the rights holders cannot be traced.

Very Rare Booty!

10 Jun

Jack Marino writes to us in the EFB Mailbag:

David,

I saw Rare Booty on your blog, what is very rare is that the brick from the corner of Errol’s fireplace at Mulholland is under this figure. I took it from the floor after the house was torn down.

I bought this figure in 1973 painted, it was lead and they made a pewter one which my friend Steve has who was with me the day the Mulholland house was demolished.

Best, Jack

The Errol Flynn Mailbag!

11 May

Hi Errol Flynn Blogsters,

I am a teacher at Albuera Street Primary and we are having our centenary celebrations of the Albuera State School later on this year.  I’ve read on your blog about Albuera and Errol’s attendance there.  Some of the corrections have made it much more accurate.

I don’t know what you have about his time at Albuera but would really appreciate anything you have to share.  I am intending to have some of my students (Grade 5/6) research him and put on a bit of a display (of the things primary school-aged kids can read about and see!).  Again, anything that you could point me to, or indeed if you are Hobartian-based, to come and have a chat with us about, would be brilliant.

I was looking at the sparse, but obviously accurate, enrolment records of Errol Leslie Flynn and it shows the terms he was at the school, the days attended and the line written about him when he left: “Gone to Sydney”.  I don’t know if it was meant as a “Thank goodness he is gone!”

Cheers,

Grant Williams

From The Errol Flynn Blog Mailbag!

07 May

Mark Young, our Author, writes that he discovered an interview of Errol speaking in French to a French interviewer about his film Against All Flags, and a few other topics about his life:

www.ina.fr/audio/PHD99001195/interview-d-errol-flynn-audio.html…

In case you are wondering, yes, Mark is related to the same Young family Errol is related to! He wonders how many other interviews Flynn gave in French? And where are they?

EFB Mailbag! Hello, God! Restoration!

06 May

Received this from Robb Callahan at the Errol Flynn Estate in the mailbag:

Hi David, Hello God was not destroyed. The original film was found last year in the basement of the surrogate court in NYC.  The film is now being restored at the George Eastman House in NY.  The film was shot using silver nitrate film stock.  There were 7 canisters of film.  Two of the canisters were completely deteriorated. The other 5 are being restored. Unfortunately with the two missing canisters the film won’t be complete, but it would be good viewing what remains.

Best

The Errol Flynn Mailbag! April 2014

19 Apr

As most of you know, The Errol Flynn Blog migrated from another host that called it quits. During the migation we lost most of our author and comment attributions, and many attachments. Jan, one of our authors, wrote to tell me of an older posting no longer had two images showing how Errol signed the guestbook at the Rock Hotel, in Gibraltar, in 1951. He was able to aquire them again, and now shares them with us:

The Errol Flynn Mailbag …

04 Apr

Got an email from one of our members who kindly sent an article link to me that he felt shouldn’t be posted to the blog, and I agree with him. The subject was the autopsy of Errol Flynn. I think the subject is worthy of discussion but if images are involved I certainly don’t want to see them. I was sent an image of Errol laying dead in the morgue that was embedded in an email – no idea it was going to be there, no warning, and I never, ever wanted to see a photo like this, nor would I care to see autopsy photos. I didn’t click the article link in case there were images. I have read his autopsy report, and there is nothing wrong with discussing it, if you really want to. But I prefer to think of Errol as he lived his amazing life, and not the nitty gritty of his death. Rory Flynn is a member of this blog, and I am sure she wouldn’t care to see anybody post something with those sorts of images. So far, nobody has done anything like this – but my friend’s email leads me to make a formal statement about this. Just sayin’ …

From the Errol Flynn Mailbag!

23 Mar

Received this nice note in our Mailbag:

Charlie Farrell & Tennis Great Alice Marble (and I don’t know who on Errol’s left!)

I found the image posted on Facebook by a Palm Springs tourist site. Since I am a silent historian and living in Palm Springs, anything from Charlie Farrell’s Racquet Club always peeks my interest. It took only a few minutes to find out the name of the person on the right.

As you will note by your earlier posts, the photo has (L to R) Charlie Farrell, Tennis Player Alice Marble and of course Errol Flynn. The man on the far right is Mr. Donald Budge.

Many kind regards,

Kay Shackleton
