Errol Flynn at the White House

27 Mar

While searching the Franklin D. Roosevelt online library, I happened to remember that EF had been photographed with FDR. I also recalled that he wrote a letter to Eleanor Roosevelt on behalf of his friend Dr Erben who was trying to emigrate to the US.  I searched the FDR website and found an entry in the President’s calendar indicating that EF had dinner at the White House on January 29th, 1939, and attended a play (Outward Bound) afterwards. The list includes the other guests as well. The link to the calendar entry is:  www.fdrlibrary.marist.edu…

I’ve attached screen capture for reference.EF at White House Calendar Entry

Escapades at The Everglades with Sean, Son of Flynn

24 Mar

Home in Palm Beach for Christmas holidays in 1954, Sean and his later-legendary, always-controversial, Lawrenceville classmate, “Taki” Theodoracopolous, decided to celebrate New Years Eve at one of the world’s most exclusive clubs – the extremely elitist Everglades Club. On the golf course precisely. More precisely, racing over greens and fairways in (Sean’s) Harley-Davidson and (Taki’s) new Thunderbird.

Apparently, Sean & Taki forgot to fix their divots, causing Florida State Troopers to arrive New Year’s morn at both Lili’s place, and at Taki’s room at The Breakers.

1955 for the Christmas breakers began with ominous trips to Palm Beach trooper headquarters, where they were charged with a bill of $40,000! – “$39,990 more than they had between them” as Taki put it.

Lili and Taki’s dad apparently reached a deal with the club, which was apparently had insurance to cover some or all of the damage. (Either way, I suspect Lili sent Errol a bill! Even so, I imagine Errol was very proud of Sean’s showing those high-browed, stuffed-shirts of Palm Beach how to ring out the old/ring in the new.
.

Word is Sean was quite the local legend for his infamous day at the races/night on the links.

Part of The Red Seas is Based on Errol

22 Mar

Yes, it’s true. Part of the apparently very good new comic adventure “The Red Seas” is based on Errol and The Sea Hawk.

Ghostship Zaca

20 Mar

130

Dear fellow Flynn fans,

while watching an alltimer`s classic called “Pandora and the flying Dutchman” with two Errol Flynn related actors, Ava Gardner and James Mason, I thougt I had seen a ghost.

The ship the cursed captain is confined to, starkly resembled the “ZACA”. But as I found out in Ava`s biography “Love is nothing”, it was the “ORION” rented from industrialist family Bertrand.

Though much bigger in size, she still has the lookalike of Errol`s yacht. If you take a peek into the film, the interior is done in similar fashion.

Here is the Trailer: www.youtube.com…

As the the story ghosts, one can find the film, too, somewhere out there in the vast Internet Ocean.

Enjoy,
