Memorial Day, 2021
Because of poor health, Errol’s multiple attempts to serve in uniform were not accepted by the Armed Forces, so he supported America and the Allies in numerous other ways, beginning with his anti-Nazi tour of South America, his numerous appearances for the Red Cross and on war bond tours, and his anti-Axis war films – from Sea Hawk to Objective Burma.
Errol also supported the troops and Allies very significantly as a star on USO tours, including north to Alaska in WWII, and west to Korea during the Korean War.
North to Alaska, 1943
West to Korea, 1953

One month from today – on June 20, 2021 – the Errol Flynn Blog will host our Second Annual Global Birthday Toast to Errol. All EFB Flynnmates are invited to raise a glass (cup, bottle, or can) to the greatest swashbuckler of all time, Our Man Flynn. As was done very successfully last year, all Fans of Flynn from around the world are invited to join us. And this year there’s no need to stay at home and wear a mask while toasting!
Drinks representative of your location are encouraged. As examples, Errol is known to have imbibed Bundaberg Down Under – Jack Roses in Manhattan – Bloody Marys in Burbank – Whiskey in LA – Vodka in London – Rum and Coca-Colas in the Caribbean, Wines, Beers, and Champagne in Europe, etc etc etc. Drinks need not include alcohol. of course. Errol also drank coffee, and enjoyed tea, often with orange blossom honey. A more detailed list will be provided in coming days. It would be great if our toasts included regional specialties – Margarita’s in Mexico, Gins in the British Empire, Guinness in Ireland – et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. Anything that’s good Flynn fun.
Eleven days later, all Fans of Flynn are also invited to toast Olivia. July 1 will be her first birthday on the Other Side. From France every year, Olivia toasted Errol on his birthday, with champagne, of course.
…
All are welcome and encouraged to let us know with what you’ll be toasting, and from where. And please encourage all your Flynnmates to join in like Flynn Fans here!
Cheers, Salud, Slainte, A Votre Sante, Prost, Cin Cin, Skal, Gesondhaid, Akale Maluna, Felicidades, 干杯, Ypa, 乾杯, and Oogy Waha!

The Adventures of Robin Hood; Released May 14, 1938
Quotes from Louella O. Parsons’ glowing review of The Adventures of Robin Hood
The Adventures of Robin Hood is the most exciting costume play of this or any other era. Cunningly combining melodrama, romance, and colorful adventure, it romps along at Twentieth Century speed, making us forget we are seeing legendary characters who lived in the swashbuckling of early England.
Robin Hood comes to us in the person of dashing Errol Flynn, whose performance tops anything the young Flynn has yet given to the screen.
There couldn’t be a lovelier Maid Marian than Olivia de Havilland.
Basil Rathbone gives one of his topping performances as Sir Guy of Gisbourne.
Claude Rains reaches new heights.
Ian Hunter is the perfect King Richard the Lionhearted.
You’ll like the kittenish Una O’Connor, the prankish Eugene Pallete, the hearty and lovable Alan Hale, the weak, spineless Sheriff of Nottingham played by the sterling actor, Melville Cooper, merry crew member Herbert Mundin, and Patric Knowles.
Much credit goes to that splendid director, Michael Curtiz, and William Keighley
The music, by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, is enchanting.
Costumes by Orry-Kelly are beautiful.
The photography, by Tony Gudio and Sol Polito, is poetic.
Perc Westmore, may I say, did a great job on makeup.
The Technicolor adds materially to the beauty of the picture.
…
Joe Mantegna, who sought and received a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star next to Errol’s, gives a Flynntastic interview about the greatness and importance of both Errol Flynn and The Adventures of Robin Hood. He is a true fan.

Hola, Flynnamigos.
Errol was a very frequent and famous traveler to Mexico. He drove, he flew, and he sailed there: to Tijuana, Ensenada, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, all along and off the coast of Baja, Acapulco, Mexico City, Cuernavaca, and numerous other locations. Plus, he dated and was married to there.
Here is a representative sampling of photos, articles, and videos in predominantly chronological order documenting Errol’s Flynnsational travels and adventures South of the Border.

Errol at the 1954 Epsom Derby
“[This book] relates the story of original Beatles drummer Pete Best’s mother Mona pawning her jewelry to bet on the longshot Never Say Die to win the 1954 Epsom Derby. She cashed in her winnings to put a down payment on a house in Liverpool where she converted the basement into the Casbah Coffee Club with the opening, and soon to be regular, band, The Quarrymen (later renamed The Beatles), in residence.”
Per former Beatle Pete Best’s account, if Never Say Die had not won the Epsom Derby, there very likely would have never been a Casbah Coffee Club, nor therefore The Beatles. So, without his ever knowing so, Errol was at one of the most pivotal events in entertainment and cultural history.
